996tt 997tt TCU differences

Curious to know from anyone who has adjusted there TCU as to the differences. I hear the 997 TCU is a superior TCU. Any info in this?

I could be wrong but from what I remember, the 996 is a Siemens EGS52 Unit. Similar to one used on early 2000 benz cars. The 997 is a EGS53 Unit. As far as technical differences, I am not aware of any other than firmware being different. Physically both transmissions are similar. I am sure there are some minor differences on the inside. I have a 996 TIP and willing to play with it to make it shift faster.

When I have time I need to research if the 997 tcu can be integrated and what factors may be a hurdle. I am also using a Proefi so I could theoretically also try using a 997 ecu if needed. The wiring harness for the 996 and 997 ecu with Proefi is very close. I'm just so busy doing other things right now.

I'm sure there are internal differences between the 996 and 997 TCU's plus their CAN protocols. I will check if I have a 997 TCU lying around to verify.

That would be great, it just seems as though there are some extremely fast 997 tip Tronic cars out there but not very many 996. I don't see why the 996 TCU is not as tunable. Unless the internal processor is just too darn slow to react appropriately.

Interestimg... I was under the impression that the pro efi ecu is not compatible with tip cars, as there would be a lack of communication between the ecu/tcu for load signal, etc...
