cup car cables vs ends?

Are cup car shifter cables different only because of the solid metal ends instead of the plastic? Do you get the same result by getting aftermarket metal replacement ends as using cup car cables?

Thanks, Matt

The PMNA Cup cables are probably 3x as thick as the OEM cables. They are more like "rods" instead of cables. The ends are different also. They are full metal.
