A friend, also a member of 6speed, and I have very similar cars. Similar miles(both very low), we both weighed about the same, 6spd. Mods were nearly identical. We both were running Fabspeed xpipe exhausts(his car also had Fabspeed headers). However, mine without the 4 mufflers and his the "off the shelf" version.
We race and it would be no competition. My car would pull on his like a freight train.
I'm starting to think quad muffler cars are really, really choked up when compared to a car without mufflers.
Just a theory, but I continue to come across more and more evidence!

Anyway, great runs!
Unless my memory is failing, typically the best exhaust on a turbocharged car is none at all. Any removal of back pressure allows for more efficient turbocharging basically.

Wow awsome times even for a tip which normally do better on the 1/4mile.
Your MPH is great for stock k16's and stock intercoolers.
How much boost were you running and what did it level off too?

Did you just remove the driveshaft or the front diff too?

Definitely make sense. I do have 100 cell cats but I doubt they're very restrictive.

From what I understood, the boost wasn't going to be dramatically different (maybe +1psi max ) but the ignition and fuel will be more aggressive. It stayed around 1 bar consistent and even saw it drop to 0.9. This map is still very safe.

I only removed the front driveshaft, everything else is still intact. My goal was to lessen drivetrain loss to help the trap speed.

Thanks!

According to the 1/4 mile list, no. It also seems that this 11.39 is a stock K16 record E.T.

Congrats OP! Awesome time with very little work done.

No you will not get 10s on stock K16s. 11.3 is probably the best you will see. But the guy had it in rwd and running auto trans.

I do wonder how much power the OP is making though. I'm guessing 480rwhp which still I can't see running 11.3s 1/4 mile.

Congrats though I'm happy for him.

Why not? I ran 11.5@122mph in my Turbo 350Z when it had 430rwhp. It was only about 100lbs lighter than a 996 Turbo.

I have a buddy with a speed shop in town. I do plan on strapping it to his dyno here soon so I will let you guys know when I do. Maybe Ill be wasting my time but now I'm curious on what a set of intercoolers will do for the top end...

You'd be smart to upgrade them with the bigger turbos anyway, so it's worth a shot on the K16s.

IAT numbers shown to me from runs with stock intercoolers were pretty high. Worth strapping a durametric on it and doing a few pulls to see how high they get. IMO a set of intercoolers is well worth it for both flow and cooling. I'm biased to SRM but there are others too obviously.

Yeah I think my next move will be a set of intercoolers. They would also allow me to brake boost to more bar without having to worry about heat, as much. On pump gas, the higher I would brake boost the more my trap speed suffered. In a perfect world I could possibly launch harder and help the top end out with a set of coolers..

Intercoolers will help but the turbos will blow hot air because the wheel is to small. I would recommend upgrading everything if you want faster times or more horsepower.

Is the 997 tip different from the 996 tip?
Both are Mercedes 722.6 transmissions so building them to take power shouldn't be that bad. Same trans that is in the sl55 e55 and many others. 997.2 may be different. Differential may be the weak link, or possibly the transfer case, which could be a problem

Wow really 1.0 to .9 bar only and you did 123mph with no intercoolers? I'm gonna have to talk to tony about a race gas tune.
How much boost does the tip make on launch?
The 6spd is a pain to launch, but
Tony said he was working on being able to make boost for launch, figured it would be easier on the tip.
