What Mod's & Why not a stock ECU?

I did discuss this question in the YouTube video that I posted at the start of this thread, but in brief I had the stock ECU flashed and they fried the ECU in the process. Yes, it can happen, some ppl call it bricking the ECU and I'm told it's a risk when you flash a tune to a stock ECU. So as I had to replace the ECU I decided to go with a race ECU that will give me a MAFless tune with more sensors which equals better engine protection and management and much more for track and Targa in terms of data logging and telemetry.
To be eligible for Targa events I can't go wild on engine mods. I will be running E85 which will need more fuel, so I don't run the stock fuel pump. Instead I run a carter lift pump to a surge tank and then two Bosch 044 in line pumps. The race ECU can manage these so that the 2nd pump only comes on as needed. This is a photo of an earlier version of the fuel system, we have modified the plumbing on the top of the tank since then.

I recognize that pic. You emailed me about tuning your car. I actually tried to stir you away from the stand alone due to what I already knew. I recall you saying it's only $2500 and you can tune it for little money therefore getting a new Ecu and custom tuning would come out to be the same as a proefi.
You can't fry the Ecu unless your a experimenting wannabe tuner like a many are out there reselling $100 online tunes via tuning services from Europe. The Ecu can be recovered most of the time as long as there is no physical damage and or EEPROM is In tack along with the micro chip data. Some boards can even be fixed. You just didn't have anyone qualified that can pull this off in my opinion. It was not that hard honestly.
I give you credit for posting this becAuse a many would not.
I just had a bad feeling about what you were trying too do when you said your going to do a $2500 proefi and go . Sorry to hear it ended up a mess.

Hi Markski,
Yep, we spoke over a number of emails and I appreciate the time you put in. It's clear why a number of members on this forum sing your praises. You may recall that we discussed that we had sent the ECU to the East Coast to a large specialist AFI/ECU company and they replaced components that were damaged. When we got it back we still weren't getting any reading on the O2 sensors, even though they were new. The wiring seemed to test OK and we couldn't find the problem. So perhaps I could have tried more with it, but I wanted to get the car running (lol now). The stand alone ECU had completely new wiring for the O2 sensors and used Bosch wideband sensors as well. It should have been straight forward.
ProEFI continued to blame the Techs here and questioned their competence but there has not been an issue with anything they have done. They are used to working with Motecs and Haltechs especially and know what they are doing. I just didn't bet on the ProEFI product being such poor quality, basically the plug N play harness wiring problems and other functions not working.

I have a 993 tt and went with Syvec for my build. I have to say the support has been very good. Ryan reply's to my e-mails within a couple of hours. As far as tune,I flew in Boyan for the initial tune and now Wayne has taken over. I'm very happy with the ECU.
