Certifed Pre Owned Questions?
Certifed Pre Owned Questions?
A friend is looking to buy a used TT, it has a Certified Pre Owned Warranty, he's buying it from a non Porsche dealership, the question is will that warranty be transferred to him? It shows a expiration of June 2007. Has anyone purchased a CPO vehicle not from a Authorized Porsche dealer? If so was the warranty transferred?
I believe that it is transferrable. You can probably call Porsche to verify. But this means that the car was purchased new, traded in, purchased as a certified by a second party and now traded in again. Three owners in a few years. I would most certainly have the car inspected by a Porsche dealer before you purchase it. Also, make sure that the CPO warranty is with Porshce and not an aftermarket company that this dealer is using.
Warranty stays with car-Is Transferable
I have a Certified Warranty which I bought from the dealer when I bought my used '03 TT. The warranty is transferable to a new owner. That is exactly why I bought it, as I think it will increase resale if I want to sell. I called Porsche and made sure they have on file the extended warranty for my car. I would suggest you call them and give them the serial # and check the dates etc. Good Luck.
OK here is the latest.. the warranty is only transferable if you sell it back to a Porsche dealer, if you sell it or trade it in to a non Porsche dealer the warranty is void. It doesn't say anything about private party transfer... Found this on the Porsche website..
Can I transfer the warranty?
Should you wish to sell your Porsche, you will also benefit from the Pre-owned Porsche Warranty. The remaining warranty is transferred to the new owner. And this will undoubtedly increase the value of your vehicle.
Once the covered vehicle is traded or sold to any non-authorized dealer or commercial broker, this warranty is void.

Valid if sold to Private Party
The warranty is valid [transferable] if sold to private party. Now, a non-Porsche dealer might be abe to maintain warranty status by taking the car in trade and keeping all transfer documents to new owner blank awaiting new sale. That is how it is done I think. So when the new person buys the car it actually looks like a private party sale with no dealer involved. I think that is possible in most states so that there is not another legal transfer of ownership. Anyhow, private party sale the warranty is transferable.
