Forgestar (Caststar?) wheel users - beware!
#16
yeah, was way too scary and knowing what i know now, i'd have done far more and deeper investigation re forged/cast/rotary etc etc. and the hub ring being needed on 18's ( no less!? ) really was my first clue these are definitely not right for anyone that uses their car any anything near the level of its normal capacity. but just putting around? sure..fine.

it isn't that they were "off" per se? its hard to describe. it's the actual openings are "angled" if that makes ANY sense? in any event, i haven't looked at em in some time as i literally trashed em. but i went with RAD tuv certified lugs and that seemed to help. but by then i was too skittish and had lost faith in the wheels completely what with that hub ring and my lug issues that went on for months. either way. not one issue with OZ and they're actually made with our cars in mind if you order from OZ our oem gt2 offset/sizes etc. so i just figured issue solved ..but you're a full time tracker, while i'm just a canyon guy. my car has seen all its track days and they are behind it bow w 135k on the odo!

hence my replacing them with the OZ allegerita's ( though i'm sure those can also be "run" on a camaro ) they were custom ordered with the gt2 sizes and offsets. no issues since and my driving has not changed.

i ran oem lugs and the issue ceased to occur once i switched to "RAD" TUV certified lugs made by OTIS, LA but although i didn't snap any after that, it seemed more prudent given how cheap the wheels were in the 1st place to simply start all over with a wheel that was at least designed specifically for use on our cars rather than one that "would/might" fit our cars and also a camaro. hence my replacing them with the OZ allegerita's ( though i'm sure those can also be "run" on a camaro ) they were custom ordered with the gt2 sizes and offsets. no issues since and my driving has not changed.

well, there ya go steve. god knows we all talked about it for 42 pages back then. now it hardly matters. i tried every lug that would fit and was recommended by every supposed "expert" here, and real world. but again, this was years ago now. one would think i've moved on.

Seems like there are some misunderstandings on fitments here. Porsche PCD is 130mm. Bore is 71.6mm. Lugs are ball seat. Conical/tapered seat lug bolts are available for the few aftermarket wheels that use them, as 14 X 1.5 threads are common. One reason Porsche fitment costs more is that the PCD/bore is not shared with other makes, and the Porsche aftermarket is comparatively small. Porsches require relatively "high" offsets in comparison to other 5-lug cars. Another reason for Porsche wheel pricing is that drivers put more g force on them while demanding lightness. These are not entirely compatible considerations. Hence, GT2 wheels are solid castings while TT wheels are hollow.

well put.

I think Mark's issues are pretty well documented at this point I think the original issue was simply rooted in the low quality conical lugs that are provided with the wheels in the first place. Perhaps if they provided quality conical lugs or studs with conical nuts (or maybe even better, if they made the wheels with ball seats so stock lugs could be used) with the wheels that maybe wouldn't have been an issue.
As for OP and the video, that really sux and thankfully no one was hurt. Totally different application, but I've been running Fstar CF10's on my Cayenne Turbo for almost three years now. No tracking but my pig weighs close to 6,000 lbs (I weighed her so 5,660 lbs to be exact with full tank of gas but without passengers) and I've towed my boat as well as my trailer...no issues at all. I do inspect the wheels anytime I'm going to tow the boat/trailer, anytime I'm going on a longer trip, and every time I wash her.

No issues on mine. I'll keep an eye on the wheels but it seems like breakage is not a common occurrence for these wheels and I imagine there are MANY out there.

If their fitment was closer to fitting better I'd still be tempted but needing centering rings on the 18s and a different seat for the lugs doesn't make me happy else honestly I might already own a set. This video is disturbing mostly because those wheels apparently didn't have many hours on them and others were close to failure - this wasn't exactly one off. Hopefully this urges those who track to inspect more closely! This owner missed the cracks that had begun behind the spokes

More of the truth is coming out...........

I didn't actually see this until after my last post, but it smelled a bit fishy, and sure enough the kid found this thread and hasn't responded. More track days than claimed, wheels a lot older than claimed, probably a lot more offs than claimed too, and lots of curb crashing at a notorious wheel destroying track.
I hate to see a good up and coming wheel company done under by a kid trying to get his next set of wheels for free (which he did). But check that whole thread out and see how many guys are RACING on these wheels on slicks. If this issue were wide spread, we certainly would have known by now. Some of the guys posting in that thread are lap record holders from around the country and national championship winners.
But sure, "they are only suitable for putting around".

Just a heads up for those sporting these gems....Chinese castings at their best. I've said it before but wheels are the wrong place to try to save a few grand... Be safe out there..

In germany you need a wheel rim certificate for your type of car. U cannot put any wheel on a turbo, just because it fits. Same for the tyres. There are just a few tyres which are allowed here, because the turbo can reach top speeds of 300+ km/h. You cannot put any tyre with speedindex ZR on a turbo. Thats of course for safety reasons. Dont know how u handle that over there.

I don't wish to close this thread because between the lines some useful info can be found...but, if the personal crap continues it will be closed...thanks for your cooperation
