Forgestar (Caststar?) wheel users - beware!

Just a heads up for those sporting these gems....Chinese castings at their best. I've said it before but wheels are the wrong place to try to save a few grand... Be safe out there..

Not just Chinese castings, 'Murican Forgings. If you regularly track your car with sticky rubber (Hoosiers, Kumho 712's, PSC's etc) add thorough wheel inspection to your pre-track checklist!

This is a wheel center off one of my rear Fikse FM10's. The crack was all the way through!!!

At the time I attended every autocross and DE I could and was running Hoosier R comps on my '01 Boxster S. I noticed this cleaning my wheels - great way to inspect them - after about 4 years of hard use.

Many don't realize that forgestars ate only rotary forged wheels meaning forged barrel but pressure cast spokes. The f14 also seems to be the weakest of the wheels they make. The cf5 and cf10 are heavier but the spokes seems to be much more beefy than the f14.

They are a good affordable wheel for street use and the weekend track event but like any wheel, they need to be inspected.

Another thing I find that many do is run to small of a sidewall which causes more wheel abuse. Much like everyone on here loves 18s and not 19s for track use, it's mostly because you keep the extra sidewall which has a little more give on track. Going to a 19 unless you run very all tires like myself, you loose thay extra cushion.

Yikes. I have a set of F14s. Only 18s and no track usage though. I guess I better keep on eye on them. Hopefully this is just an isolated issue related to poor quality control.

They damn well better be. I have the magnesium ones on my Viper and even though the OP bought them they are monster bloody expensive for how hideous they look.

I send my stuff out for magnaflux and the end of the season though hopefully they will catch it if they start to crack after a few seasons.

They had failures early on due to insufficient load ratings for the track. They didnt realize so many people would track them. The newer models have higher ratings. The 17's just came out last year, dont know whats up with that. I had a failure just like that on one of the early models. That on my first lap on slicks after nearly 2 years on A6's with no problem. The newer ones (in 18's) are fine. I've seen some of every wheel fail at the track. Search the net. You can find BBS, HRE, Fikse, whatever fail at the track. Wheel manufacturers make adjustments but regular inspection is a must. Simply put any wheel, no matter how much you paid for it, can fail.

Just be careful buying used, or this 17 inch f14. There are a ton of fast cars running the 18's for several seasons with slicks and much stickier tires and faster cars than that one.

This is a major red flag though as this guy was only running r888's or less. Unless he potholed it with low pressure Im not sure how to explain that.

CCW is one of the most respected wheel companies around, but even they had a failure epidemic early on. They stood behind their porduct and improved it and now are one of the most respected brands around.

so ironic since i got my f14's because so many ahead of me had told me they used them as their track wheels nearly exclusively. i had always wanted the cf10's anyway..but theyre not available in 18.

i just had so many issues with the fact the lug holes they've drilled are NOT made for our 5x130's i'm glad i ditched em before something horrible DID happen. some will recall my continual busting of lugs using f14's.

i'm over 'em and at 1500 a set i just threw em away. just like i did with a set ( my one and only ) of hankook v12's lol

Your lug holes were off? First Ive heard of that issue. I have had 3 sets and havent had a lug issue to speak of. Not to mention I run studs and the wheels slide right on and off.

I don't waste money on aftermarket wheels. Stock wheels always look fine to me.

it isn't that they were "off" per se? its hard to describe. it's the actual openings are "angled" if that makes ANY sense? in any event, i haven't looked at em in some time as i literally trashed em.

but i went with RAD tuv certified lugs and that seemed to help. but by then i was too skittish and had lost faith in the wheels completely what with that hub ring and my lug issues that went on for months.

either way. not one issue with OZ and they're actually made with our cars in mind if you order from OZ our oem gt2 offset/sizes etc. so i just figured issue solved ..but you're a full time tracker, while i'm just a canyon guy. my car has seen all its track days and they are behind it bow w 135k on the odo!

It was the lug seat, they weren't made with the same seat as our stock bolts as I recall. I love the look but failures are scary
