Question Replacing the locks / keys / transmiter

Hi all,

Sadly, a couple days ago.. I lost my car key in the public area
I am thinking about replacing the door locks ,the engine ignition and of course some new sets of keys...

how much would I be looking at the total bill? more than $2000?

Thanks in advance,
Endra

Hey Endra,

A friend of mine had someone broke into his house last month and stole all the keys for the cars. The Honda accord already cost him almost $1200 to replace all the keys. I think $2000 might be close for our cars.
Try other sources like SunCoast Porsche to get all the necessary parts and keys and have the dealer locally do the programming for you that way you might save a little.

I would try and find the key...Getting new keys is not only pricey but a PITA....I think they need to come from Germany!!

Can't they (your dealer) re-encode your keys & ECU with a new code different from the lost key (& your current keys)??? That's what Benz did when I lost a smart key from my CL.

I think the shop can change the transmiter..
but if I dont change both locks, they will still be able to open the door, but not start the ignition...

I lost the key, in the area (within blocks) when I usually park the Turbo at... that's my biggest concern...

Check with your Insurance Company

I had a lost key in a Lexus SC400 replaced under my insurance... I just had to pay the deductable. I had all the locks and the transmitter/receiver replaced. Out of pocket something like $250... total bill; something like $2,800

Sorry to hear that

I am guessing you only lost 1 key, first you will need to buy new key remote and a key matched to your VIN. # Then any shop or dealer with the Porsche System Tester 2 can recode your old key remote and the new key remote to your car and alarm system control unit. Yes your lost key will still open the doors but it will set off the alarm and it will not start the car. Key remotes are only about $125.00 and match key to VIN # is about 35.00 and coding both key remotes and alarm should be about $75.00 -Total 235.00
