996tt x50 coupe vs 996tt cab

I sold my 996tt x50 a coupe of years ago and now I want to get back in the Porsche game Particularly I'm interested in a 996tt cab. Is the weight difference noticeable? Is the rigidity difference noticeable? performance wise i could always chip the car and change the exhaust. If anyone is selling my budget is $50k

For $50k, the 996TT world is your oyster. Lot's of good looking cars around that price point.

Good Luck!

I've been looking around cars.com and there are only a handful of 996tt cabs with a manual in the entire country. I would love a yellow one but I've decided not to be picky with the color. Looking for a 996tt will be project that will take months I assume.

The best information I could find lists the coupe at 3,395 pounds and the cab at 3,660 pounds assuming a manual transmission.

Of course we all know a coupe with basic options and a full tank of fuel will weight more than 3,500 pound.

Either way, I would assume the cab is 260 pounds heavier.

Later, Steve

I can live with 260lb. Going top down is a priceless experience. I had more fun in a z4 and rs60 spyder than with the x50 coupe.

for the 997tt the difference is 70Kg giving same options and trans, can not see why should be different for 996s

the rigidity of the platform can be addressed, if you dont want to push that setup in any kind of performance/racing than tune, exhaust, suspension should do a lot.

I have driven my 996tt x50 vs tune+exhaust TIP 996tt (420hp base) starting in boost we were dead even, starting a bit off boost the tuned TIP jumped and stayied in from a bit. So guess with a FBO setup the cabrio can be even better than the old coupe, easy..

I went from a 996TT coupe (not X50) to a TT cab and love it. I don't do any track events or hardcore driving, and to me the convertible is way more enjoyable to go cruising. I can't tell any difference in weight, maybe some in rigidity, but who cares? Top down is where it's at if you aren't trying to wring out max performance on a track.

I might be persuaded to sell mine but it would be slightly above your budget - and totally worth it.

This time around I would go with stock ride height and suspension. I had coilovers and 19" rims on my old car and it was just impractical in nyc. however I've been wanting a speed tech exhaust for quite some time

I'm in the same boat as you. I don't do track events. How much is slightly?

I love my cab!!!! I have a modernized sound system (touchscreen/nav/reverse camera), 20" wheels, stock suspension and a Speedtech 2.5"x-cellerator. It all works amazingly well together.

Yeah, there's nothing wrong with a Cab and a whole lot right with it. Especially for a cruiser.

based on all the wonderful knowledge that's shared here, I kept my 40K mile Turbo Coupe's suspension all stock with the exception of GMG Adj sway bars. While the SF roads probably aren't as bad as NYC, they're still pretty rough and I need all the suspension travel I can get. I also stayed with 18" wheels as well.

No regrets, I don't care if the 'low riders' on the forum make fun of my stock ride height, I do just fine on our fast canyon and coastal roads.

Right between "a lot" and "barely".

Around $5k +/- a tank of gas.
