to hear it told, a wider rear offers a greater contact patch. all else being equal.

this is probably why gt2's run 8.5 X 12 rear. some folks run 9's in front as i have.

yes, you can tell the difference, though admittedly it might be difficult to quickly notice the difference if you're running down a hi-way on a 295/30 VS a 315/30. but given enough varied driving conditions and seat time, you'd know.

to your point re:aesthetics. a 315/30 with 15mm spacers fills in the wheel wells perfectly. form following function.

I have 17mm spacers with my stock wheels. I am also thinking about mounting 315. Are the 17mm too much compare to 15mm if I mount 315?

^ i don't know with any certainty but its only an add'l 2mm's more? but i'd bet there is a reason that the 15mm spacer on the rear is the most commonly accepted size to widen the stance with spacers on this platform? but I'm no expert, though i ran 7X15 spacers lowered ( approx 40mm ) on stock twists X 235/40 - 315/30 and the ride and stance was near perfect. wheels filled the fenders perfectly. again, a very common setup, presumably for a reason.

I used the spacers size recommend by Porsche. 5mm front and 17mm back. So far the rear looks perfect. Just curious if anyone with this setup have any issues when mounting a 315.

I ran the 7/15 also and it looked money. Also tracked with that setup. Different wheel offsets obviously change that, but for twists it's perfect

Here are some tire comparisons siting the quantifiable difference. What can you say? Just wondering if those who've driven on both can actually tell the difference. Not sure if the revolution per mile difference of -1.9% makes a difference on the odometer or not? Given these stats, what would seem to be more reason to go 315 would be more for subjective aesthetic appeal filling in the gaps. No?

The 315 is a better match for the 245/40 in the front too(w/awd) and you end up with more rubber in the road, as well as the improved aesthetic you mention.
