i'm still feeling the line has split so technically the pump itself may *not* be bad, but for all intents and purposes i'd call it a bad pump since r&r is the easiest way to remedy it if so..

when mine went out it was "start car, idle cpl seconds - press throttle.. stall" if this sounds familiar? lol.. anyway.. GL w it tomorrow!

Update; i checked the fuse. I believe relay is kicking too. I hear click by fuel pump. Maybe its not priming. I pulled the bump i can see that 2 hoses are fine. So should i just buy new fuel pump?

IMO a new fuel pump will take care of several variables. They pumps also do just go bad after all these years or miles.

Fuel pump is priming. Getting fuel pressure gauge to test it. I also vote for bad fuel pump ;p testing continues

Update; So I tested the fuel pressure with the gauge by the fuel filter, I turn into on position no pressure, I tried to start the car, I see very little pressure almost nothing---
does that mean dead fuel pump? I can hear it prime....strange, I think I'm going to rip that octopus out (fuel pump) and inspect it...

so,

1. bad fuel pump

can it be bad fuel pressure regulator?

Fuel fuse, fuel pump relay is working , you can tell fuel pump relay is working by touching it and turning they key on (its the gray fuse with pink lettering), if someone will search the forum and wondering,
do we have anymore fuses ? lol

If the fuel pump comes on with the key on but you read low or no fuel pressure that points to an internal (in the fuel tank) leak.

In some cases the car runs out of gas at around half a tank because a fuel siphon hose fails and only one siphon works. As soon as the working siphon has emptied its basin -- the other basin is full and the basins are not connected -- hence the need for two fuel siphons -- the car essentially runs out of gasoline with approx half a tank of fuel still present.

If the internal fuel leak is with another line then of course the pump can run until the final trumpet sounds but there will be little to no fuel pressure -- or supply -- and the engine will almost certainly not even fire let alone run.

If you are sure the fuel pump is running then and you are confident that you are correctly checking fuel pressure and the low/absent fuel pressure is real I think you need to open up the fuel tank and remove the pump and its assortment of hoses.

If the problem is a bad hose you might be able to replace the hose but most I think just replace the fuel pump and its assortment of hoses with a new unit.

Be very careful. You will have exposed a larger reservoir of highly flammable vapor and easily vaporized liquid. A static discharge spark is all that is required to set the tank alight and the car and the garage, etc.

Whenever I did any fuel system work I tried to do it outside with the car parked far enough away if I had to I could release the brake and push the car down the driveway even out into the street to save the house.

I also used a fan to blow air over the car to dissipate any gasoline fumes. You want to be sure the fan can't pull any fumes in as the fan motor can spark the fumes off.

Would it make sense for him to try to fill the tank more, get above that potential disconnect below the fuel pump to test that theory?

The only downside I can think of is that if fuel pump still needs to come out it increases the amount of fuel surrounding things and likely a hair messier removal.

When my pump went bad it would run fine, die, then run fine again after 5mins. Finally got a gauge on it when it wasn't running, no pressure. Swapped the pump and it was golden....

I pulled the pump im going to inspect the hoses more. What really got me thinking i looked at connecors at the pump on top of plastic they look brown. Plastic looked burned. I'll post pic later. Fuel pump had gas inside the bucket. Bracket half of it inside so i don't think it was starving. Fuel pressure gauge tester should show me pressure even without gas right? Which syphon are you talking about?

also second picture, not mine, why do we need to disconnect these lines? if yes, how. hard to reach. so i left them in the tank connected. while taking fuel pump out.

Hey do you see that L shaped fuel hose in that pic? It looks like its split of course the pic is blurry but if it is theres your problem. Lots of people have that hose split if its not then your pump is dead.

given their known and well documented propensity toward failure? i still can't see the wisdom of attempting to r&r the line and not just replacing the entire pump w a new one(?) which is probably ruptured unless you truly enjoy what in the immortal words of ray charles is doing the "mess around" lol..this'll keep ya in the garage until the dinner bell sounds! but it sounds as if you're well into it and perhaps just the line can? be replaced. but never heard of anyone doing that either..

I ordered new pump. Either or that pump is 13 years old. Battery was 5 years old. Second pic [not mine. My rubber lines are fine. ] i marked in square. And asking why ppl disconnect those extra venturi lines ? Whats the point? I just pulled two connectors on the back of the pumped and pulled it out
