I'm thinking about switching to Cobb due to their Accessport and eliminating the need to lug a laptop in the car to log with Durametric. It also looks like a cool toy to mess with.

Has anybody made the switch from our 996tt "go to" tuners i.e. Marski, EPL, AWE, UMW to Cobb?

I'm wondering if theres a big difference between these tuners or if they're all doing the same thing by adding their own flavor of A/F, Boost, Timing mapping to a base tune.

 

Pretty sure Sambo is another of the "go-to" tuning options that has been around and supportive of the community for a long time while offering COBB tuning. I suggest a conversation with him to start you off on answering your questions....

No 1st hand experience, just from research over the years.

 

I went from proEFI to Cobb...two different animals, but I do like the EASINESS of the Cobb...a lot of good tuners out there for it as well. I also like the no laptop for logging, the extra gauges, easy map updates, code checking and clearing. DO IT.

 

I've wondered the same thing, one of the big things holding me back from upgrading turbos is having the ability to switch to a lower power tune for certain types of driving and a kill mode tune for others. Can the AP switch on the fly?

Hey guys. Yes the access port can hold several maps and switch in just seconds! You can have maps for different levels of aggressiveness on different octanes and for different uses. I'd be glad to set up anyone on a trial and offer full support. In stock and ready to go. We've had great success with these! Regarding tuners, there's definitely several good ones out there. Before getting involved myself and teaming up with Cobb I've had the pleasure of working with the best. You just have to find someone that fits your needs and makes you feel comfortable.

I have a few buddies running Cobbs on various platforms...while a nice to have a 'on the fly' tuner/gauge pack, they aren't all-that, always screwing around for no gains.....get a good pro tune by one of the guys listed above and enjoy...set and forget

I'm not interested in features, tweaking, tuning as much as a solid reliable tune and an easy way to monitor the health of the car.

Looks like from what I've read through additional reading in the forum archives is that the tuners add their own flavor and have different ways to make power for our cars.

Some tuners use more boost/less timing while others do less boost/more timing etc. to make more power.

Overall, the power gains appear to be close or at least in the same ballpark.

I'm starting to feel like it's just a flip of a coin as to how you get there from a programming/tuning standpoint.

 

I am using Cobb and have worked with Sam and Mitch from Cobb. It is very easy to use. Easy to log, scan and clear codes, as well as have several gauges to monitor. Get with Sam and he will take care of you.

 

I purchased a Cobb Accessport from Sam last year and it was one the best decisions I made as it relates to my 996. The product is terrific and the support from Sam is incredible.

 

understand the cobb accesport is simply a delivery /datalogging tool. just like the maestro suite7 unit. its the tuner who makes the car go fast or run lean.

if you run the factory dme there are only so many ways to change the tune on the car. move to a standalone and the skies open to a whole new level of tuning. and the cost that goes along with it

 

Since you're in NJ, its worthwhile having a conversation w/ TurtleTooned.com. If you plan on staying at the stock/bolt-on level the Cobb is great, I've seen him make some great power on 996/997s with it.

If you plan to go off the deep end with mods, then a stand-alone is likely the better investment

 

Same here...and as a result I have several good tunes to choose from including 91, 95, and 100 octane MAFless (based on my access and willingness to blend 100 unleaded with 91).

Car runs great, and is very consistent. I run straight 100 octane pretty much all the time now since I don't have much free time to drive it...

 

I'm currently running Kevin's tune and very happy. BUt see new turbo's in my near future and am debating with Sam on moving over to cobb possibly.


Curious, where are most mounting their cobb unit? And are you displaying it at all times?
