ignition cylinder assembly

Hey everyone,

My ignition key is REALLY hard to turn once it gets colder outside. The issue is not with the ignition switch like many have already replaced. I already replaced that part months ago and the key is still very difficult to turn now that fall weather is here.

I'm assuming the entire ignition cylinder assembly needs to be replaced?

Is this the correct updated part number: 996 347 017 07

Thanks

You are about to have an easier time starting your car. That is the fix, and you have the right number.

I have a used ignition cylinder assembly (part # 996 347 017 06) in perfect working condition. PM me if you're interested.

I recently replaced it with part # 996 347 017 07. I did not see any difference between the -06 and -07. I replaced mine because my car would take a few turns of the key to start. However, it did the same exact thing after replacing this part. Eventually, I figured out that it was my key that was bad! I started using my spare key and haven't had any more problems. The transponder in the other key must be going bad. I never had any problems with the key being difficult to turn with the old ignition cylinder, and I now know there was nothing wrong with it. Again, let me know if you want it. I'll take $125 which is half what I paid for the new one.

Thanks. I'll keep that in mind when I get more serious about doing that. Did you do the install yourself? How difficult/time consuming is it?

Yes, I did it myself. Not too bad at all. Took me about 4 hours taking my time and following the instructions here. Expect I don't know why the instructions have you remove the gauge cluster. I did that, but I don't think it helped me at all, and think it was totally unnecessary.

Actually MonkeyKing, I got another question. Did you replace the Lock Cylinder as well or just Lock Mechanism (99634701707) only?

If the lock mechanism was only replaced, did you have to do any reprogramming or was it just a part swap out?

Just the lock mechanism. No reprogramming needed. You will transfer the immobilizer from your old part to the new part.
