996 cab---> 996tt?

My dad has a 2000 996 cab.

36K miles
Triple black
18" sport classics

...It's a fantastic car, and my dad really loves it; but he's been "lusting" over a turbo for some time now. As of right now, he has decided to get one in a few months in addition to his car, becuase he says he has to have a convertible. Last weekend we went to put down a deposit on a 997tt, and there was incidentally a very nice 2001 tt the dealer had just gotten in. 13K miles, polar silver/black, no options, asking $74,900. After checking it out, we took it for a ride. It was blisteringly fast! My dad said it was truly a completely different car... steering, shifting, obviously power; it just felt much different. So here's the question.

Do you think if he were to get a Turbo in addition to the 911 he has now, would he end up DDing it instead of his current car?
(b) so should he just trade in his current car and go for the turbo?

Is it a better idea to wait a while after the 997tt's hit the states to get one ( and have the 996tt for a few years after 997tt arrives)?

What would you do?

I'm just looking at the situation from a third person view. I think he should do what he wants, but any input other than our own would be refreshing . Thanks in advance.

-Joe

maxjamie is infamous around these parts
I went from a 00 C2 cab to a 02 TT. Absolutely no regrets, do not miss driving or even the "convertible" feel of the other car at all. I would not keep both cars as the convert. will hardly be driven in my opinion.
75k for that car seems a little pricey. Sell the Cab by owner, and find a 996TT with the exact options and perhaps better price that you really want.

But here's the thing. An average 996tt cab is 115K, right? And lets say my dads current car is worth 30ish, that would make the difference 85K. Why not have both the cab and the coupe, splitting miles, wear and tear, and you get two cars. The problem I forsee is my dad just ending up driving the tt much more than the cab, to a point where having the cab might become useless.

Thanks for the responses.

I'd wait until 997TT comes out and decide then. If you have to buy a car now, I'd trade the cab for 996TT instead of keeping both. If he needs a DD, get a 4 dr sedan or something that gives good mileage for cheap (<$7k)

I am very confused; I love my 996 cab C4 (narrow body) but want the wide body and deep lip wheels and I'm considered many things (wide body conversion from a 996 to a 996 C4s). I drove a 2004 tt cab - 6 speed yesterday and I was not wow'd.. It was JUST ok. I am thinking of just waiting a getting a Ferrari 360 spider F1.

THEREFORE I would wait for the 997tt.

we have five cars, of which two are Range Rovers, so the family thing is taken care of. He does not need a car NOW, he just wants a turbo. We are on the list for 997tt, but if a 996tt could be gotten for about 1/2 the price (and I doubt it will be twice the performance), why not just get a 996tt and wait until used 997tt's start accumulating.

Thanks everybody for your responese.
