Blew fuse C2, mfi/dme & fuel pump relay..
Blew fuse C2, mfi/dme & fuel pump relay..
Anyone ever seen this? In the middle of a 3 day solo road trip through back roads of CA (wife's 7 months pregnant and sent her out on a 9 day vacation and after 5 days with the kids I tagged in a sitter so I could escape).
I was WOT in 4th at 1.1 bar @ prob 6k rpm, car hiccup'd went down to .7. Then the car shut off completely and coasted to a stop and wouldn't restart. (Middle of nowhere, no cell service, had to hitch hike to a spot with service, 4 hours later was towed 80 miles to a shop). After getting a hotel room thinking I was stranded for a night they diagnosed in fixed in 2 hours.
They were thinking it may have been related to the tune (UMW). Car has all new fuel pump, and venturi tubes. New fuel filter (all done in last 12 months).
Big shot out to Sam who faced time with me during tummy time with his youngest!
Btw, some photos from the trip so far

My reference -- the 996 Essential Companion -- lists C2: Ignition relay, oxygen sensors.
Fuel pump relay is C4.
Provided the reference is correct when I see "ignition relay" I can't help but think the fuse blew possibly due to an intermittently bad ignition switch.
My other thought is the new pump is suspect. About all I can offer then is carry spare fuses and if one blows again you can perform a road side repair and then think about the new fuel pump.

Any of those could be the culprit. Does your ignition switch feel funny or bind at all? It's a cheap part might be a good idea to change that once you're back just in case. This is something definitely we haven't seen often. Glad you're back on the road buddy enjoy the escape you deserve it!

By the photo you have of the instrument cluster, I noticed your battery voltage isnt much over 12 volts which points toward alternator being a potential issue. These cars are very finicky when it comes to voltage especially when pushed at WOT..

It's a 12 volt system. 12-14 volts is what it should read dependent on accessories running.
I have a new bosch alternator and see only mid 12, maybe sometime 13 volts driving. That means nothing as it's a 12 volt system
If it sporadically jumps on and then off it's the connection itself. It's just a spade connector like a speaker. You can pull it off and crimp the ends a bit and reinstall and it should return to normal.
