If the driver in the TT is a bad one, and the driver in the 997S is a excellent one...than yes...it will be a good race up to 100 or so.

You will all be disappointed when the 997 TT comes out to play.
It's so easy to get a significant power increase out of a 996TT with simple mods...I personally don't think this will be the case at all.

what technology improvements are there specifically on 997S versus 911 turbo as far as acceleration? That's what were' talking about right?

Obviously nothing scientific, but I was "driving" around with Matt after CC today and he said my Club Coupe stayed with his CGT "better than the Turbo..." I know my car has the X51, and the conversation is about the "S" but I thought I'd add that tidbit to the discussion.

Also, I didn't intend to insult the TT cars. They are awsome.

My brother's S never keeps up with my heavy **** TT cab on the highway or from red lights when we play, which we did today. It ain't a whooping, but I can pull from him at a steady rate whether on highway or whether red light to red light. Your X51 may certainly do better, but it simply does not have sufficient torque to run low 4s on a consistent basis or keep pace with a 993TT or a 996TT in straight line accelleration.

Stock VS. chipped is valid in my mind. I bought a TT because I knew that performacne wise it would not get outdated for many years to come.

Happy to. Shoot me your cell # in a PM. I know Pat and used Pat back in the early 1990s when I first came to Memphis. The guys at Gossett know me well. I think I have bought 8 cars from Tyrone alone since 1998 and dealth with Billy Smith before then. David and all the guys up there are great, but I like giving my business to Tyrone. They are a first class bunch of guys up there. The service manager in back (cannot think of his name now, but not Andy) actually bought a 996 TT coupe from me last year.

Think what you want. Like I said before, on a long staight away, that is likely true. These are track cars! If your looking for straights, get a Chevy.

0 - 60 is also very true in real world conditions for an S v. TT. GTech was showing about 4.4 on the S and 4.0 (I have seen 3.9) on my TT cab. My old TT coupe was 3.8 with chip and exhaust. My 04 NA 996 run 4.7s with intake and exhaust. My old 90 with about 315 hp ran 4.7s. My 355 with Capristo is right at 4.5. I do not really run the Diablo 6.0 out of fear of breaking it, but I have seen sub 4s with it on same GTech.

I don't think you can mix and match testing in various maganzines. The cars would need to be tested under same conditions, same time and with same equipement so I do not think you can compare a single TT time from 2001 to a single magazine time 4 years later for an S.

Straight line performance in a turbo or any other platform porsche can be just as exciting if not more so than American muscle. A lot of people like to modify a platform not many others can or do for the challenge of it. The small and big block drag chevy has been done to death, who cares? A porsche can be enjoyed in many different ways, that is why I like it.

0-60 is true in real world conditions? Uh, how often are you launching at the best possible rpm from a stop on the street? It would seem to me that the 5-60 comes in handy most in the "real" world as engine flexiblity would determine more outcomes below 100 on the street.

Gtech numbers aren't perfect, take them with a grain of salt. According to the Gtech my M3 was a high 12 second car with a 110 trap, far off what it actually put down at the track.

Or since *he's* paying for it...he can get a Porsche and drive it on all the straights he wants.

I don't see what the debate is, I have driven both and the 996TT will spank a 997S, hands down. I could care less what the mags say. You guys are living in a dream world.
