Door not locking

The doors on my 2003 996TT are not locking with the kety. (Both key fobs have not worked for years.)
The alarm does set. I do not hear the 'click' when I turn the key to lock the door.

I believe that it is the driver's door lock itself.
Any opinions? Any help with parts and directions to repair is appreciated.
I would like to do the repairs myself.

Our cars or funny in the way that there is only one place you can use the key to open the door - driver's side. The internal mechanism is really not up to the task if you use the key all the time. I made a thread about the part that fails right here:

If the fobs don't work, you could try changing the batteries. If the transmitter is toast, your only option is to buy new one$ at the dealer.
