Hi Guys!

Hi Guys!!

Man, I've been lurking on this board for weeks now and the reason why I've been lurking is because I'm in the process of purchasing a Porsche 996TT... I do need some guidance, suggestions and even some education on these powerful beasts... First off, I am comtemplating whether I should go for a new 997 base or a used 996TT... (yes, my username has 996TT because I am definitely learning towards it...) .. Because you guys are driving these vehicles everyday, I would like some insight as to which one would be a better buy... Also, I forget where I was reading, I am still confused what the difference between a TURBO S vs a TURBO... Any help would be appreciated, and I have to say I cannot resist my temptation any longer... My final decision will be by end of March early April... Thanks in advance!!

these are 2 totally different cars, and everyone is going to give you a different opinion. The only way to figure out what you like is to drive them both.

As far as the "S" version goes, its just an upgrade package. It includes the x51 powerkit, which bumps the horsepower up from 420 to 458 I believe. The rest of the S kit are mostly cosmetic upgrades.

Drive both cars, and buy what you like. If you're looking for a lot of power, and the option to add even more power, the TT is obviously the better choice. For a daily driver, and a lot of stop and go, the 997 might be your ride. Either way you won't be dissapointed.

Turbo "S" includes the X-50 power package (big $ option on TT), PCCB Gen II (Porsche Composit Ceramic Brakes) (big $ option on TT), Special finish Turbo wheels, green tint at the top of the windshield, chrome "Turbo S" on rear bonnet and a couple of other minor accessories. The Turbo S base price was approximately $133,500 on Coupe of which about 60 were brought into the US and $143,300 on the Cab of which about 100 were brought into the US.

If I did purchase just the TURBO and not the S version, would I be able to upgrade at a later date?... and would it be worth it to upgrade later?.. btw, thanks for the replies maxwell and offroad911...

When you mean upgrade, do you mean to the factory turbo s parts or aftermarket parts?? If so the aftermarket and oem market is so large for these cars its unbelievable.. There are like 10 guys on here with over 650 hp and tq all the way up to 900 hp and tq +, big brake kits, wheels, GT2 and techart parts, so much i can go on for hours. So dont let that interfere with your selection, get the turbo or look for an x50 turbo

The X50 package was interduced back in '02 so you could beging looking for that model year onwards. If you will modify the car, as in add a chip+exhaust.etc, you're better off starting from the regular turbo instead of paying some premium for the X50.

But then it also saves him the cost of buying and installing K24 turbos as well, the X50 is worth it if you can get a great deal where your not paying something crazy over a base turbo !

If you intend to mod I would suggest getting a regular turbo.

If one were to mod to stage 3 (which most seem to) then isnt it more cost effective to purchase a reasonably priced x50 to have the larger turbos and intercoolers stock instead of having to buy them and pay for installation of them?

(Disclaimer.....I dont know what X50s are selling for..so this might be a bogus post if X50s are selling for $8-10k+ more than base turbos..)

Exactly what i was trying to point out, if you can get an X50 that isnt ridiculously overpriced, it might be worth it over a base turbo

The sad part to this whole X50s is that in Toronto, there aren't a lot of 996TTs available in general like in the states... I'm gonna link the autotrader.ca site to all the porsches that are available at the moment and please tell me which is a good get... remember, pricing is in CDN $... thanks guys!!

http://www.trader.ca/search/Results....ategory=&CAT=1

of course the 2002 GT2 looks amazing, but the price is pretty steep... anyways, thanks for the input guys!!

oh, one more thing, I looked through most of them, but none of them indicate they have a X50 upgrade... maybe an obvious option would show that it's an X50 upgrade, let me know guys, thanks!

Trust me they would be showing if the car was an x50 since it was such a costly option when new.
