Erasing fault codes

Would erasing fault codes before it causes the CEL to come on effect the readiness of the monitors? I know once the CEL comes on when you clear it, you had reset the monitors too and will have to do that dreaded drive cycle BS.

Is there a readiness cycle for these cars that prepares them for a smog check?

Yes do a search it's been exhaustively discussed
If you can't locate it I'll try to post it later.

Think twice before clearing codes if you have state mandated smog checks. It can be very hard to get back to readiness. I did get mine back without any 3am readiness cycle drives, but it took a few months. You may be better off fixing the likely problem and seeing if the code self-clears vs. resetting everything.

Agree but few of us want to live with present codes.

I used to have great success with the drive Cycle reset ( also at 3 AM lol ) but last time had tremendous difficulty with the cat ready portion of the monitors as I had reinstalled the cats

Had a b*tch of a time getting them to reset. Over 1000 miles of trying.

OP the drive reset is the exact same as BMW's
A google search will return the step by step protocol

Good luck
