PDE in Oct...questions
I'm planning on signing up for the 2day PDE this Oct. We will probably spend 5 or 6 days total since we've never been to this part of the country. (farthest south I've been, other than west coast, is PawPaw WV!) What should we do? We'll probably fly direct from Seattle to Atlanta then rent a car and drive to Birmingham for the 2 days. PDE recommends the Renaissance Ross Bridge Golf Resort.....is this OK or would you recommend somewhere else? (We're not into golf). I figured we would spend the rest of the time sightseeing around Atlanta. Where should we stay in Atlanta and what should we see/do? Not really into city stuff, maybe historic sites, photography, scenic drives (unfortunately will have a rental)???
Any local guys want to get together? Maybe do the PDE as a group?
Any help will be great.
The wifey will be driving also! (as long as she gets a tiptronic)

This restaurant, in downtown Birmingham, is outstanding. http://www.highlandsbarandgrill.com/index.html Don't know anything about the Renaissance Ross Bridge, but I'm glad they've stopped sending people to the Wynfrey. Couldn't stand the place. If you have any interest in the civil rights movement, there is an excellent museum downtown commemorating the events that occurred in and around Birmingham (and the Second Street Baptist Church, where a bomb killed several Sunday School kids, is accross the square). I also went in early October, and the weather was great. You will have a blast.
The Ross Bridge is a nice hotel. I would suggest staying there because they shuttle you back and forth from the track from there, everyone stays there and the dinner is held there. It's a golf resort for sure, since you don't play I would suggest staying in Atlanta until the course starts. Your going to have a great time at the PDE, I took the 2 day course this past Nov. and had a great time.
I did the 2 day last year also...great time, great drivers. There's a tip for your wife, and Carrera S for you. :-)

I Did PDE last year and had an amazing time! Its definitly worth spending a day in the motorcycle museum. Amazing collection, some of the most beautiful examples of every bike on display. If you get a group togeather you can also arrange for a tour of the restoration area below the museum. Also would recommend checking out the botanical gardens just outside of Birmingham. If your going to spend some time in Atlanta, head north into Dahlonega for some great driving roads and scenery, might want to check out renting an Elise for something for the day to play around in up there.
