GT2 Bumper Conversion: The Final End of 2001 Bumperettes!
GT2 Bumper Conversion: The Final End of 2001 Bumperettes!
Well I'm not sure if we're single-handidly "killing" everyone's favorite 2001 option- those nasty front bumperettes but it sure seems that way this week... We've already done 3 2001s over to a full GT2 front and rear and now we have three more in-line waiting. There's darn 2001 turbo bumpers (with bumperettes) all-over my office lol! In any case, I remember under-taking this project a long, long time ago with KPV's help back in the day... One thing is for sure it's gottena a HELL of a lot cheaper to do than it used to be (in part thanks to the deal Spidey found) and Marc@Bert Smith. It's still a fairly involving process to do completely correctly but the outcome is well-worth it. So much so we're even pulling off a Tech Art front over to a GT2 front instead. You still have to get a lot of parts and obviously pour coolant eveywhere as you change the angle of the radiator. To do it right, you must use GT2 brackets and angle the radiator forward so that once the air come in it then passes through and up the vent to the hood. On the TT, the air comes in and the radiator is angled differently to allow the air to vent underneath (there's a shroud which you no longer use on a GT2 conversion). However, I've sometimes seen a GT2 bumper slapped on and that's generally not a good idea since you then end up covering the outlet for the air and it goes nowhere obviously lessening the effectivity of your center radiator. Oh yeah plus you get more down-force and you can't argue with the GT2's factory aerokit in terms of having been tested...
Anyways for those of you with those nasty warts on your bumpers this is now a cost-effective alternative to always doing the tech art....

Here's the final result with a "previously warted" 2001 that's also got the optional CF piece from the 04 GT2....
