Actually it goes to show you how silly some things are. Take a 2001 with the same miles and it will probably be worth less, even though it is the better car. Yeah, yeah, everyone can get all teary-eyed over the air-cooled thing and how "agressive" the 993 was, but do you really think the engineers at Porsche made a worse product years later? Maybe they made too many or the design wasn't the evolution some wanted, but I'm sure as a daily drive the 996 blows the 993 away. Granted some lament the "civilizing" and "normalizing" of the Turbo, but that "progress" happened across the board on all sports car manufacturers. All this 993 craziness somewhat reminds me of the muscle-car craze going on right now in that people are remembering these things better than they actually were. The 993 Turbo was a fine car and might make a more involving weekend toy than a stock 996, but just look at all the great modifications and things that happened with the 996 that never really happened with the 993.
Its all a matter of opinion, and passion. Dif strokes for dif folks. Me? If I was told I could have only one Porsche for the rest of my life and could not sell it....I would have to pick an older aircooled.
Red Devil
Newer isn't necessary better. The 993 was the last and most refined aircooled . Where as 996 is the first gen water cooled with many problems that will be address and refine in the 997. You can not mention 993 in the same page as American Muscle car. The 993 is the result of 40 years Porsche refined engineering. You can hate what people love but you can't deny how refine the last air cooled really is until you own one.

Red Devil confirms my point. The 993 tt did not have a need to be modified. Take for example, the aggresive rear spoiler. there was no need to replace the rear spoiler like the subtle 996 wing with a GT2 wing, etc. The 993 will never be replaced, ever. I might consider buying this baby....

This remind me my 97 993TT, compare with my 996TT, sure 996TT is much faster and more friendly for daily drive. But I still think 993TT body looks way better then 996TT and 997TT. It was small with big ***, you will get true Porsche feel everytime you open and close yoru door. But with the price of the 993TT today, 996 is a better choose!!
This white one is a true beauty, if the price is right. Go for it!!!

No disrespect to the 993 Turbo as it was/is a great car, IMO just not worth the discrepancy in price. It certainly was the ultimate in development of air-cooled, but there was a reason Porsche left that behind. As a DD or regular use the 996 TT is the better car.
An acquaintance of mine owns that car. This one is in excellent condition and it shows beautifully. Many enthusiasts love the lines of the 993.
However, there is no comparision with the 996TT when it comes to driveability and performance between the two cars. This is very evident when you drive the two back to back.
