Geez, i always loved this tt
Guys, I don't think this tread is a debate about which car is better. Bill was simply posting a car that he liked. Of course the 996TT's are "better" all around daily driver cars. (and my next P-car purchase) Its not about that. When I purchased my 993, I could have bought a 3.4 996 for the same $. I chose the 993 because how rare they are compared to their watercooled brothers, how it feels and how it looks. It is the most refined air cooled 911 made. Period.

Yeah, yeah, everyone can get all teary-eyed over the air-cooled thing and how "agressive" the 993 was, but do you really think the engineers at Porsche made a worse product years later? Maybe they made too many or the design wasn't the evolution some wanted, but I'm sure as a daily drive the 996 blows the 993 away. Granted some lament the "civilizing" and "normalizing" of the Turbo, but that "progress" happened across the board on all sports car manufacturers. All this 993 craziness somewhat reminds me of the muscle-car craze going on right now in that people are remembering these things better than they actually were. The 993 Turbo was a fine car and might make a more involving weekend toy than a stock 996, but just look at all the great modifications and things that happened with the 996 that never really happened with the 993.

yeah, I did it but can I post it on a non-related category?
BTW, when does 996 turbo get bumped out of Porsche Present category and into Porsche Past category... Porsche 997 Turbo -porsche present soon...LOL

I've chosen twice between 993 and 996. 1st time was a NA car and the nod went to the 993... easy choice really. Then I wanted a turbo and I chose 996 over 993.
I really miss certain things about the 993. The solid feel and go cart nimbleness for instance. And it was oh so pretty. But performance wise there was no contest, ultimately the most important aspect of the car.

I loved my 993TT, especially after changing the turbos, ecu etc. It's now owned by a friend, so I see it at times. As to styling, I still think they look great, except for the tail that looks "melted". I prefer the S tail, and that's what I had on mine.
The 993tt is sexier and more raw car to own, i personally like it more than the 996tt. BUT, with the 996tt hitting 60-70k and maybe going lower soon........ there is not a better deal out there. 5-10k in mods and the car a monster and a great DD. Not to mention its newer and needs less TLC.
