A little venting...

So as some may know, I listed my car for sale.

I know selling a car you have to wade through tire kickers, low ballers etc, but why am I the bad guy?

It's been sort of comical this time as I've had a good amount of "interest" but some how I'm labeled as trying to pull something.

It goes like this... Lots of threads about buying a modded car. Lots of opinions, unknowledgeable commentary etc. but many of the "buyers" think why are you selling your "modded" car and they get all suspicious.

Lots of people claiming to love it but "it's modded". They are right it is modded, if that's not what you want, it's probably not the right car right?

Anyway, there's my soapbox. All in good fun. I love the car and I'm trying to keep it so maybe it will all work out in the end.

You gotta feel out the buyer. A modded car isn't for everyone even though people think it is. I was turning people away on purpose when explaining the car when they were asking all types of questions and I could tell it wasn't for them. Last thing you want is to sell your car to a nagger and a complainer and get endless phone calls after the sale for someone who knows nothing about cars or mods. The sad part is, you get a lot more of that with guys looking for porsches because you are usually dealing with a little more affluent person then lets say a 10k e36 bmw sale and they usually just want to "buy" something and not learn...

Your ad is honest and find it odd people would even contact you when they are looking for a stock or semi stock car. You have always been a upfront guy but people not familiar with the forums would be more cautious. The right buyer will come along when your not expecting it. I have sold a lot of cars and the right buyer always showed up eventually.

Ha so I'm less of a whiny baby then after all.

Yea it did seem weird that they would contact me and not want a modified car... Oh well.

I'm not going to return it to stock because if I end up taking it off the market, I want it just the way I have it.

I think I've almost put 1000 miles on it since the ad was posted but hopefully my boxster will be ready to drive soon and then I'll cutback the driving to maybe two days a week or something.

hodie21 is infamous around these parts
I was one of the guys looking at his car. He was extremely helpful and extremely honest about the car. It's a beautiful car and I'm still looking for one. I always go back and look at the pictures of his car. I don't think you were hiding anything.

The folks I don't trust are the ones that don't disclose things on a car. Like someone saying their interior is 10/10 and finding out the dash has the leather bubbling from shrinkage.

Stilov's car is still on my mind and a great deal for what he's done to it.

Selling a vehicle is one of life's many displeasures. I currently have 2 of my vehicles for sale...and people are brutal. Offer you one thing, then immediately offer a lower offer, before even seeing the car?!!! Even the most honest guy can be made to feel like a criminal. People think I'm trying to pull a fast one...on stock vehicles, that I am selling at or slightly below market value...

I feel ya - when I was trying to sell my wife's 650 convertible I got so sick of the crap from "buyers" that I ended up driving it to Carmax, taking slightly less, and walking out with a check that day. I could have sold it for more but the ordeal is such a hassle that it wasn't worth it at all.

Agreed!!! I actually took less trading in my evo after dealing with all the idiot tire kickers as well. I imagine it would be no different with our cars. I told the last guy who said something negative about my mods (different car) which were clearly stated in the ad to literally beat it! Good luck with the sale stilov!

Ya thanks for the support! 😀

I am this close👌to pulling it off the market. I should have the boxster up and running this week and then I can park my 996 for a while and end up keeping it.

Wish me luck!

I sold few cars in the past, even on craigslist - only way I do it, I list everything about the car. mods, what it needs, when things got replaced. than if someone is interested, I tell him to stop by and see the car (because if know if someone really wants it, they show up) next step, money talks BS walks. not selling a beat up car here for $1000-$2000 dollars.... Ready to do the transaction ? I take the car out and we go for a spin and yes I'm driving. done.

It is amazing, for sure . . . I love the comments of, "I like this, this and this part of the car . . . but I hate seal grey (as an example)." I am of course am thinking . . . why on earth did you bother to answer the ad, since my ad contains many pictures as well as a description of the exact color? Just makes me think that people have too much time on their hands . . . KH

eBay works well for selling modded cars imo. Then you can respond the dumb questions only once and post them for everyone to see.

Some people say negative things as a negotiation tactic to try to get you to lower your price. All you can do is know what your car is worth and try to keep emotion out of it
