Now that the dust has settled on the shootout
Chad,
When you say DOT "street legal" do you mean full depth tires? Because some DOT come without the legal depth. And next spring there will be another new tire coming out that is 3/4 pure slick and 1/4 tread and yes...it's DOT.
I think you have to test the fuel from a couple undisclosed places. We have some pretty smart guys here and it's not that hard to trick the "system" and for some stange reason I have a hunch the next shootout will REALLY be bringing out the foxes (and I ain't tak'n girls) I noticed just a lllliiiiiiiittttllle bit of competitive spirit at this last one.

I don't know if this is practical. But, how about some higher speed runs. Here are some possibilities. (Probably one is all you need...)
1. Top speed, if you can rent Mrs. Orcutt's driveway or a proving ground.
2. If not top speed, perhaps time from 0 to 150 or 175, or some relatively high speed, to give the really high HP cars the distance needed to show their stuff.
3. Perhaps a 1/2 mile run, in addition to the 1/4 mi?
Beyond higher speed runs, I'd also be interested in some measures of flexibility (i.e., top gear acceleration). So, perhaps a 60-80 run. Or, maybe 60-100 run, in top gear of course.

I don't think that could be done anywhere other than blocking off a stretch of road and dropping a mile or two. I think this would be a nice addition to the test. I know we have some old airforce bases around here that may work is the middle is chosen.
I know you are trying to achieve a certain amount of fairness, but it will be definately difficult to control all the variables. Only driver, tires and probably gas can be controlled. Technical pre-inspection can be done to a certain degree, but who's to say what's what with internals. There certainly is a reason for a tuner to say something represents a certain "package", while it really is above and beyond. You need some kind of seal/tape that could be put over the hood/gas door to prevent opening after its been looked at/filled up. You can do a baseline dyno and then one before each speed-involved test to make sure the car isn't being tuned/detuned to match the event. Getting someone technical & unbiased as the "inspector" is important if you are trying to keep things as "honest" as possible. Sounds like fun!
Cary,
With the sponsers Web Queen Design is lining up, this would be a very real possibility. All invited participants that accept will sign a written contract which will guarantee participation.

sharkster,
That really isn't bad. The tip as weak and strong points. This is exactly the type of information people will want to know. With sound information, they can make an educated choice.

Sounds very interesting. Does anyone have suggestions as to where around the country such facilities would be available. In addition would like to have a track (perferably one without alot of walls) and drag strip near by. Maybe with the right sponsers, a site in the UK or Europe.
