Hi All,
The stock front lip on my 996 turbo has seen better days. Considering an aero lip as a replacement. Just wondering if the aero lip is any lower than the stock lip as clearance over speed humps etc may be an issue. The aero lip looks like it projects further forward than the stock lip so not sure if this affects clearance.
The aero lip folds under taking the mounting tabs on the facia with it much more easily than the stock lip. I am on my 4th aero lip, lowered to GT2 height with H&R sport springs.
I don't think it protrudes down much further... It's just that it is forward-swept and much bigger so it looks like it sticks down more. Does anyone have a picture of a stock lip to compare to this?
The stock lip is right about 2 1/2" tall measured in the front center of the bumper.
I happen to have an aero lip being shipped to me right now and can measure it when it arrives. Or one of these guys can walk outside with a tape measure real quick....
I guess I should mention that I have a cheap ebay oem turbo lip and a cheap ebay aero lip is on the way. I think I paid about $70 for the normal one and about $100 for the aero. Slider's looks like a nice carbon one.
My Aero lip is about 2.75 inches high - measured right at the wheel. It does stick out forward though and that could cause a little more trouble on the steep driveways. I haven't had much trouble since I adapted my driving style in those cases using a crossing approach.
Thanks guys. Doesn’t sound like there’s much of a difference. If you could measure both of the cheap eBay ones, that’d really help! Thanks for the info so far
Got my aero lip today. Great timing for you Mat59!
Can confirm they are the same height in the front center of the bumper.
It protrudes approx 1.5" forward, whereas the stock one is flat in the front.
Maybe when I swap them I'll grab a side-by-side pic. Depends on whether I remember to do it, or if i can take a decent picture of them together.
Thanks again. It's pretty tempting to go for one as I think they look quite a bit better. Just might be tricky getting over those huge speed humps. Doesn't help that the nose of the 996 protrudes so far forwards from the front axle. My last lowered car was a BMW M3, and BMWs don't seem to have much ahead of the front axle.
Yeah. I'm stock height so I'm not really worried about it too much.
I plan to get coilovers, but even when I do, I'll probably run them as high as I can. I dont really care about being slammed or how much my wheels tuck. I'm gonna keep it as high as possible while also being corner balanced. Trade-offs TBD!
