Revved to redline - BANG!, see photo - ever see this?
My weekend drive (01 TT 30K miles) cut short with a bang, see photo. How common? what the hell? - the last time I blew a hose from revving was 20 years ago on an old beater - this hose is only 5 years old, from Water Pump pressure side!
Any special procedure to refilling the cooling system? - I have the green coolant (circa 2001), I guess the new Porsche coolant is pink - ok to mix?

I think I did the same thing in my /02 a couple of summers ago. Was driving up a long hill out of the river valley on the way to the detailers and a ton of steam started coming from the engine. Drove a couple of blocks further to the detailers with a massive cloud behind me and the lost the balance of the coolant in the detailers lot. I called Porsche Assistance and let them take care of the problem.

You need to have a bleeder system like what we use or the dealer. It sucks down the system collapsing all the lines and pulls the air out. You then release the valve and coolant is sucked back into the system. It takes 2 minutes to fill the entire system and without air pockets. Any other procedure and you will be redoing and redoing the system.

"Yes, just open the bleed valve on top of the coolant tank. You can drive around with it that way and it will help purge air out of the system. Just check the level every few days and add coolant/water until it stops going down. Then close the bleed valve."

No, like Steven say's the dealer has to do or and a mean a big OR like me if you don't mind reving the crap out of your motor you can do this.
Open the bleed valve and filler cap and hold the RPM to 3500 for about 4-5 minutes, this causes the DME to open all valves in the coolant system. YOU MUST NOT let the RPM's drop or coolant will shoot out of the filler cap. One person keeps their foot on the gas @ 3500-4000 RPM...keep it steady as possible....which is actually very difficult for that time...have another person fill the system at the same time. Once the motor gets warmed up coolant will start to overflow once all the air is out of the system.
WARNING: THE PERSON FILLING THE SYSTEM WILL GET COVERED IN COOLANT IF FOR ANY REASON THE RPM'S DROP BELOW 3500 RPM..... the reason for this is the valves will instantly close causing a huge pressure lock forcing all the collant out the fill opening.
..not good!

On a side note, the coolant used by Audi, all new Audi's that is, is the same coolant that Porsche uses except it's pink in colour but half the price of the Porsche coolant.

Too bad I already flat bed'd to my garage (dealer was closed naturally) - confident that it was just the hose, I hate to flat bed again to dealer 10 miles away, on the other hand I would hate even more to cause localized overheating due to air bubbles in system on the way to the dealer. Just not used to taking a car to the dealer just to purge the system - should have known with 3 radiators, etc of the turbo

If he has the right tools then he can do it. We bought one of course we also have the PST2 and so. Just make sure he has the system that sucks the entire coolant system down and holds it. It will pull all the air locks out then when released forces coolant back in. It is the best tool I have ever bought.

The other day I opened the expansion tank to put some Redline's water wetter (I do this to all my cars...) but the car was park in a uphill ramp at aprox. 60ºC and the coolant immediately came out, so I closed it waited until it was totally cold and did it again this time no coolant was spilt... Do you think I should re-purge the system?
