Just thought I'd share my experience with this car after a couple months of ownership. This all started because I drove a 2015 GT3 on a track in NJ. Before this experience, I didn’t think there was a huge difference in cars beyond a BMW M car. I was wrong. A 911 truly is next level. I’ve driven a lot of M cars (e36 m3, e46 m3, S54 M coupe, e39 M5, e92 M3, F87 M2) but a GT3 is on a different planet. It laughs at you on the track. This planted the seed for the need. Two years later, I was on the hunt for something more my style.
I’m coming from (and still own) a 870whp Maximum PSI built motor e85 fueled turbo e46 m3. I wanted my next car to be AWD, and the 996 had that feature. I wanted the “ugly” 911 that no one wanted, but also wanted it to be insane. 6 months later, it was found.
All the work was done by the previous owner(s?). I’m just enjoying the car. It’s a 2003 6spd with 55k miles running the SYVECS DME on e85 tuned by Emre via AIM Performance in NJ. Built engine, larger Precision turbos.. basically: larger everything.
I was told the car was conservatively tuned at 2 bar and could make more power. Right now I don’t feel the need for more power. The engineering (new and aftermarket) in this car, is impressive. It’s very tight and responsive. The throttle pedal input is linear. However, in second gear and full throttle, the car is insane. I can’t imagine the tires hold all the power. It does seem at times like it’s fighting for traction but second gear is completely useable unlike in my m3. Even in fifth gear.. if you mash the throttle, it pulls quickly to 150.
Also.. I don’t even try, but people that have no right even thinking they could keep up with a stock 996 still want to race me in this car. All my cars look stock (which I prefer), but this car is a magnet to chest pumping. I’m not saying I disappoint them before the race, but I’m hoping someone with a chance one day asks.
This is a phenomenal car. I’ve had it on the lift once already to pressure test the charge pipes. Looks great underneath. (not the most fun to put on my lift though) My only concerns with the car is that AIM hasn’t gotten back to me on a SYVECS question. I thought buying one of their cars was a great idea. I’m a little concerned now they may be too busy to work on the car these days if/when anything goes wrong or I want some upgrades. So far, I’m very happy with their end product. Maybe one day I’ll take it to Atco for a quarter mile time but I don’t plan on launching it hard. Just see what the MPH is.
I don't even know what size turbo's are on there. I was looking at the tag on the housing while I had it in the air, but was not able to decipher. I believe they are 6262, but not positive.
I bought this car knowing very little of its history. The test drive and peak under the rear is what sold me on it. I figured it would be a large learning curve like 15 years ago when I bought my first Autronic powered e36 turbo ti. 3 engines later, I had a 10 second car! I learned A TON in the process of sorting that car. I'm trying not to blow this engine though. They're about 10x as costly. =/
That's the one of two pictures I've taken of the car. I've only washed it once. It doesn't get all the love but does get half the abuse.
Congrats on the purchase and new car. Sounds like a fun set of other cars as well. Let's see some pics of the other builds and of the modlist for the Porsche.
Here's what started my boost addiction at my old garage. It's the first BMW I ever purchased. Longish thread going back to 2010? This starts with me pulling the engine for a second time and installing a partially forged engine. Later, I pull it again and build a full forged engine with new manifold and PT6262 turbo. Currently at 500whp but built for ~750+ if I wanted to run e85. Never did with that car.
Here's a short thread on the work I've done with the blue m3. All the power goodies were completed at Maximum PSI. I'm working on some aluminum aero now. After taking the car to Atco last fall, I had hurt the differential so I did a hybrid e39 m5 internal swap with the e46 m3 differential. Managed a 10.9 at 141 the first time out. Not bad.
Every car I've owned has been a progression. Absolutely love this 996tt. However the blue m3 is great car, just more of a drivers car. Gotta fight to keep it straight sometimes. My girlfriend doesn't like that car so much..
