My 2003 996tt+6speeds+X50+PCCB was a birthday gift from my wife 10 years ago. I still love it every single day. The car is bone stock. It is in the same condition as I purchased it 10 years ago. It has been in SoCal since new. I admitted that the tearing eyes was not something I preferred. However, as soon I sit behind the wheel and start driving, none of those non-sense matters. One of the reasons that I loved it so much was because it was unloved by many enthusiasts. All I know or care is it is a beautiful car with lots of performance.
My current daily driver is a 2019 AMG C43. It is a good daily car and is plenty fast. It has the similar driving dynamics like my 996tt. But there is still a big gap between them, performance wise. Lately, I get more compliments from people at gas stations or traffic lights. It seems that it is becoming more and more of a classic car.
This is the first time I post a picture. IMO, the car looks a lot better in person than in pictures. I thought I just wanted to share. Cheers!

nice. that car looks as mine once did ten years ago when i picked up this current one. years of SoCal's mulholland hi-way debris and driving closely to gravel dump trucks have aged it somewhat, but i have covered it in vinyl bits and stp gas treatment stickers. but it runs like a stung mule. not stock and i love the headlamps.
i too love it every time i take it for a spin. but am now considering handing it over to a pal and getting into a cayman s or turbo.
my days of throttle steering up and down steep canyon corners in SoCal have come to an end. along with any joy of the last 50+ years in SoCal.
I passed 10 years a few months ago. Mine is my daily driver and I have had a wonderful journey with it. I have modified a few bits, but I'm never going to sell this car.

i'm out. the communists can have it.
I hear you. The weather in SolCal is still nice but a lot of things have changed which is why I don't drive it as often as I used to. But I am grateful that l got to enjoy it a lot for the first few years of the ownership.
I like your signature. The law of physics as we know it is real, at least when it is above sub-atomic level.

thanks. that's my favorite porsche quote ever lol...
as to CA, i completely agree. i just returned from a run up the entire state. its beautiful, but. politics.
i have been saying this for years, that daily "sport" driving is becoming a "thing of the past". i've had my fun. fun that others will soon, never know.
how long will free and CA be used in the same sentence. i have great open two lane blacktop here dodging horsesh*t and critters but i'm hankering for snow in winter.
i'm going to raise the car back to dakkar rallye height and revert back to awd lol
When I was in the market 10 years ago, my plan was to buy a base 997 Carrera. It was what I could afford at the time. So we visited the dealer a few times for test drives. I was ready to pull the trigger. A day earlier, a car collector who also had a 2005 996 turbo S traded in his 2003 996tt for a 2010 997 GT3 RS which I saw in the showroom. My friend who worked at the dealer told me that I should look at this 996tt. It would be a long time keeper.
I was hesitant. I wanted a traditional look 911 with oval headlamp( ya, everybody wants "911-look" 911). Also my first Porsche was a 2002 986 Boxster. The engine blew up at 5k miles due to the IMS bearing issue. I was not sure about getting a 996. Then my friend told me that 996 turbo and GT2/3 had Mezger engines which were bulletproof. So I did some research and realized that this 996tt could be a once in lifetime opportunity. So I decided to buy this car instead, which was "cheaper" than a base 997 at the time. It came with 2 years factory warranty under CPO and had 12k miles on the clock. It still smelled like a new car. In fact, the same sales person who sold the car years earlier said that he felt like he sold the car yesterday and now selling it again.
When I picked it up on my birthday, it was one of my happiest days in my life. The clutch slave cylinder/accumulator and passenger side micro switch were replaced under the warranty. Other than that, the car has been strong and reliable. I am just glad I didn't get a 997. It would have been just another car, 10 years later.
I don't use any social media. So I wanted to use this thread to record my journey and maybe share it with others who are in the market. Special thanks to 6speedonline, I learned a lot about this car from this forum. I hope that is OK.

Thank you.
I am happy to see that others have the same feelings as I do.

change is constant.
Thank you. I am flattered.
They say that the only thing does not change is everything changes. Are we here to talk about cars or philosophy???

i find the two inseparable. except perhaps as regards oil and plugs
driving to a shop tomorrow to follow a friend who cant get his cat monitors to "readiness" for the CA smog test ( typical ).
after he is done, i will meet this local shop owner to discuss a door micro-switch replacement and an n75 r&r. since i can't get to my pals shop 2 hours away in this heat.
all part of the joy of which you speak. still i have been exceedingly fortunate with this car at 167+k miles.
