Dealership Experience
Dealership Experience
I recently purchased a 996 turbo. Speed yellow with a built motor, a Techart Kit, BBS Wheels and lots of other fun stuff. The car looks great and definitely has a presence. Took the car to my local Porsche dealership to have the air conditioner recharged since it wasn't blowing cold. I dropped the car off with 30,005 on the odometer. I picked up the car the next day with 30,021 on the odometer. I asked the guy who brought the car around if it is normal that the car would be driven 16 miles for an air conditioning service. The reply was yes we have to road test the unit to make sure it's blowing cold, etc. This doesn't make a lot of sense to me. More disturbing though is when i looked at my invoice, the mileage-in number was 30,016. Someone added 11 miles to the number that the car came in with. I'm starting to feel like this was intentional and meant to cover up. The car drives fine but who knows what might have happened. What would you do? I don't want to make a big deal out of this but it's starting to bother me.
if the car and a/c are both working as they should. it could be much ado about nothing.
beyond an inaccurate "mileage in" number. 5 miles seems enough to test the a/c and 16 is "high" - but nothing you can do about that.
you mention the motor is "built". not many ( if any ) cars have the motor dropped and "rebuilt' at 30 k miles. do you know if anything bbi actually did?
enjoy the car!

i think you are overreacting. the car needs to cycle and be driven to ensure that the A/C is consistently blowing within the temp range. that would include low speed local as well as highway driving. i always make sure that under load there isn't a significant drop or variance in the temp, otherwise it could be superhot and the driver is driving the car hard and for some reason the A/C dips and then the car has to come back for adjustments.
if the car isn't damaged and the A/C is working, i also agree that they did their job.
