Dif between Power kit, 992, X50 motor?
Trivia question here and I'm sure it's been covered before but I can not find it......so, back in 2002, motors had terminology applied to them and I'm trying to remember the differences.
The X50, I believe, had the K24s (VGT's) as well as better intercoolers, exhaust, and possibly the 2 oil pumps. Am I right on this or, was there anything more....and....is this the same motor that was alos used in the GT2?
Thanks in advance.

the I/c's on the x50 and gt2 were the same and double as "cheese graters". they are generally considered an "upgrade" of dubious value as compared to gt2rs I/c's or other aftermarket I/c that further reduce heat soak. which are an issue for the x50/gt2 stockers.
yes, the M96 mezger motor is exactly the same motor in all three 996 iterations of the turbo cars ( 996t/x50/gt2 ) until 2005 when the VTG tech was employed on all 997tt iterations. but the 997.1 tt was the "last of" the immortal "mezger" engine ( IIRC? )

Very helpfull....thanks so much!
The cat info is interesting....I'd forgotten.
Cut to the chase, and the reason for my ramblings, I have a crate X50 from Germany that we will be putting in the car this week.
It has new, stock I assume, exhaust.
My old motor, that we just dropped last week had 100 cell Roock exhaust and a few years back the internals failed so we just cored out the cats and programmed the COBB to accommodate.
Sounds like maybe....maybe, I should save, transfer, over my old exhaust to the new motor?
I do have new Markski coolers, so that's covered.
Thanks again.

and yeah if you have a good 100 cell exhaust you can swap - I would. nothing special at all about the x50 stock exhaust. it's the "same" as the std 996 turbo and again. restrictive!
good luck with the new motor.

Congrats on the 182K....incredible. I have 135 on the 997.2 Cab C4S but last yr replaced the motor.
So....it begged the question and I'm not surprised you asked.
I continue to deny, to myself, that I over-rev'd between 4 & 5 at Rd America.
My home track and though I'm too old to Club Race now I still enjoy any chance to be out there.
It was a bad day overall and in a few seconds I blew out both intercoolers and probably threw a rod.
I was due.
In 75K I'd only dropped the motor once (since 2000), and I do 5-7 track events a yr.
We decided not to rebuild....and, I decided on keeping this car, so we moved forward.
I already had K24s and a lot of other tweaks......but looking forward to a fresh X50.
Great motor, as far as I'm concerned....and almost bullet proof, as we both know......unless you do something pretty stupid. ......which I still deny.
Thanks.
