New to the tt...Have ??'s
Hi everyone. I am getting ready to purchase a 996 turbo and have a few questions. It seems that there is no difference between the 2001 - 2004 996 turbos. Is that correct? What is considered high mileage where it because difficult to sell, assuming that the car has been well maintained. For example if a Toyota has over 100k, it still has lots of life left.
Does the x-50 upgrade have a noticeable difference? Any tips you can give me as I'm looking to purchase would be helpful. I look forward to being a part of the community.
Thanks

I would stay away from an '01 (first model year bugs). if you're not going to mod, I would find one still under warranty and X50. You will find a wide range in mileage, my '02 has just over 8000 miles ..... it's a weekend fun car. You'll find many used as daily drivers ..... either way you can't go wrong. It's a great car, take your time and do your homework (and ppi)..... good luck
Porsche's are very reliable. I have one (albeit a much older car than a 996TT) with 200k+ miles and another with 150k+ miles. With those large mileages, the engines have never been rebuilt. Although I am planning a topend on the 155k mile car.
mine has 80K still no problem.. and its its highly modded.

I've noticed that mine can pop out of 2nd if you're hand rests on the gearshift sometimes; is there a fix?

every year in the 996TT run is a good year, no real problems, even with the '01's.
Nice to get the newest year you can afford. Look for good options that you like, there are plenty out there.
I love the X-50 option and looked for that in the car I bought. Bigger K-24 turbos, larger GT2 intercoolers, and beefed up tranny. (this was a $17,500 option!). Many will say you can beat the X-50's 450hp with just several thousand dollars of mods, which is true. But when you start modding the X-50 you can go even bigger hp.
Anyone who is able to obtain one of these awesome cars is truely lucky!!
