Upgraded shifter part#
Looking to upgrade the shifter on a 02 996 Turbo.
I heard good things on the stock shifter from a 997. Is the follwoing part # the correct item? 997 424 010 00
TIA

That will still have a lot of plastic parts that develop slop over time. I went with the Ben Auto Design shifter and machined side lever that Uniwerks Design sells. The left to right rotation has bearings in tightly fitting bushings. The side lever has a thin plastic sleeve to reduce noise between the side output of the metal shifter but it is a tight fit in an aluminum cutout and feels very solid. I spent about $300 on the two items.

Yes, the part number 99742401000 corresponds to the shifter assembly used in 997 models. It's a popular upgrade for the 996 Turbo, offering improved feel and precision.
