Polished Wheel Cleaning Advice

I took the car out a few days after the hellacious snow storm and all the salt, dirt, etc. just caked on and is practically impossible to take off. I tried everything...regular soap and water, mother's billet polish with a lot of elbow grease, P21S wheel cleaner, etc. However, nothing will break down that debris!

Before going to my last resort which is using very fine steel wool (# 000) are there any other quick solutions to get this crap off?

Maybe Hot soapy water?

I would suggest trying NEVER-DULL, if thats no good then try a automatic polishing wheel, a fine steel wool might be ok but might leave fine scrathes but thats not the end of the world since this is a road wheel.

Good luck Bill... I don't even like keeping my polished lips clean on my HRE's in good weather.... You can bet the next set I order will have chromed lips.... I know, chrome is not kool and adds weight... I bet with brushed or painted centers no one will even know the lips are chromed and not polished. I sure will when I clean them... The chromed wheels on my FX can be wiped down with just a damp cloth and they look like you spent hours cleaning them, no scratches either.... Hmmm.. maybe I need to order a new set sooner than later....

You listening Santa???

Have you guys seen the "STEAM BUGGY" on TV? Im thinking that that might do the trick? One would think that the steam would easily break down that nasty build up.

Im going to try the hot water technique today and see where that gets me. If I get decent results, my mission today will be to find that Steam Buggy! LOL!

I know there's a place in the Palisades Center called "AS SEEN ON TV".... They must have it!

Do the polished surfaces have a clear coat? If not you'll never stop the corrosion in street use. Everyone seems to put down chrome but the upkeep is easier.

You CAN get HRE lips clearcoated which woudl help, however after talking to Mike at HRE he said that they would chip and would end up looking like crap...hence why I am going with chorme on my new wheels...

HRE told me they DO NOT recommend clearcoating the lips and if you do its at your owb risk and you sort of void the warranty on the outers...They only clearcoat centers. They said clearcoat on the lips will get swirled and abused in not ime by road debris...imagine stone chips but ten times worse as **** hits there ALL the time

Ok guys...I just bought the Shark Portable Professional Steamer from Target for $100 (90 day refund policy...what do I have to lose). It's got 1600 watts of steaming power!

I tried the hot water trick and it seemed to help out, so hopefully, the steam will dissolve it all.

For all you high polished fans, this might be the ultimate solution for all your headaches and sore as hell shoulders!

I've got my fingers crossed for good results, but we'll see. I'll report back later!
