One major weakness with 996TTs is...

The standard and/or stock seats. Seriously folks, this car is supposed to be a sports car and instead we get treated to sloppy, unsupportive, awfully heavy and utterly useless seats. I mean my 27 year old 930 (old school 911 turbo) has FAR better and supportive seats (ok they're chocolate brown but that's besides the point). One of the best mods for these cars has to be the GT3 seats. Yes there are better/lighter race seats out there but there's no denying that GT3 seats not only save weight, keep you and your butt in the seat better when going through the twisties (or on the track) and yes look better. There's nothing worse than being in a high HP TT at the track where your **** slides around every corner and you're having to use your knee to brace yourself against the door. I know they're not for everyone but even tall people can couple these with a lowering bracket. Each seat with the bracket is 29 pounds. The stock seats? You don't even want to know. Try 2.5X... and almost 2 for the sport seats. I honestly feel a pair of these for roughly 2.5K is the best 2.5K you can spend on modding these cars- it took a couple of customers this week to remind me of that fact. Porsche (at least in Europe) really got it right.

And just because they're GT3 seats, it doesn't mean one can't bling them up a bit with carbon, yellow paint and/or alcantara. One GT640 car has the yellow thing going on (really neat) and the other GT640 is full of carbon (the owner is obviously trying to rival me with the most carbon found in any 996TT). Both owners, who have modded their cars up the wazzoo have said the same thing to me. "...possibly, best 2.5K I've ever spent on this car".

I get asked at least 20X times a week "What's the best mod that you think one can do". Maybe GT3 seats and a roll bar are it? If nothing else you can use 5 points, be safer and hang a set of rear Moton canister mounts.

Alex im going to have to agree.. After doing my suspension and stuff, i realized how ****ty these seats are and feel around the tight turns, with bumpy roads and a stiffer car, im sliding and bouncing everywhere. One of best upgrades in my m3 besides suspension was the Recaro Pole Positions, i cant wait to throw some GT3's in.

How much weight does it save over stock, i would imagine 60-70lbs per seat like the M3's no?

How are these seats for daily driving? I love the way they look.

That's exactly my point See the more we throw at these cars in terms of handling, suspension and power the worse it is to actually sit in these seats. No kidding but my XKR had better seats, my EVO had way better seats, **** the FJ Cruiser has better seats lol! In terms of weight savings, it depends on what type of seats you have but on my 01 I saved 70 pounds by switching (I had the full electric seats, with heat, memory etc..).

It depends on your build to be honest. I'm a 34 inch waist and that's perfect. 36 should be fine but anything like a 40 inch waist and um... no. Are they as cushy as stock seats? Heck no... but you do have a movable lumbar support which you can configure for your own needs. Getting in and out of a lowered TT is a little harder I suppose. Otherwise I've driven on many long trips and been just fine. Visibility is a little worse obviously.

Correct me if I'm wrong but.........the other side of the coin would be.....forget any real practical use of the space behind your seats, tough to get there.......and, if any of the adjustability or 'creature comforts' of power-control is important to you (i.e. adjust height, back, angle, heat, memory, etc) then GT3s might not be for you.
Otherwise..........great seat.........and quite possibly worth a Thursday nite install before a track weekend .

Yup lol, well i think its an esential upgrade, but most people wont be driving thbat agressive canyon/twisties or track days, so they dont want to sacrifice the comfort. Me on the other hand, i think they are more comfortzble then the stock seats

So true, so true. When I was looking to purchase my Porsche, the biggest beef I had were the seats. I tried the standard, sport and adaptive but none of them felt right. They seem like if you the perfect size then they might fit and offer the right support.

I have the GT3 seats and they are awesome. It is such a pleasure to take a high G corner and not have to struggle to stay centered.

A cool feature of the seat is that the cushions are removable allowing you to add inserts to make them fit you like a glove. I added some padding to the bottom cushion and added some lumbar support. It's just great.

My wife who is 5'4" also loves the seat. Every time she gets in the car she makes a comment about how great it fits her.

I get more compliments on the seats than probably any other mod on my car. Everyone thinks they are just so cool, especially with my yellow racing harness.

The only caveats about the seats is that they are tricky to get into, especially for people that aren't used to it and I worry that the leather on the door side of the seats will wear out quickly as you climb in and out. I've learnt to lift myself over using the door sill as a brace but its hard to explain the technique to my passengers.

The rear seats will become completely inaccessible so you'll save some more weight by getting rid of them.

All in all, I love them. Great mod.

Seats first, everything else later. GT3 seats transforms the driving experience and are safer on the track for a variety of reasons. The main one being...you can feel the feedback the car is giving you in terms of traction. Very important when starting to approach the cars traction limit....

Gregg, you are absolutely correct. The rear is useless and the car truly becomes a 2 seater...

No kidding man... it took doing these two cars this week for me to remember that. With all the power they have and suspension work (plus braking) it really sucks to take any type of turns and be moving around. I'm sure lap times are greatly improved by you not having to focus on staying put in your seat! You can actually focus on driving...

Yes, just one more reason why it sucks to be 6'4" and 250lbs.......(not to mention it pretty much precludes owning any Fcars or lambos too.....)
