My First Kills...
My First Kills...
Yesterday it was a beautiful day in "Mexico" so we decided to go fora cruise, Myself, a slightly modded 04 SVT Supercharged Cobra, and my
buddy in a 993 Cab. I was dying to see how my buddy's Cobra would stack
up against my little K-16's.
being of extreme (foolish confidence) I let him take off (I was next to him)
and when I hit third it was bye bye Ponycar! When I slowed down after
hitiing my 150 mph "limit alarm" I had to actually see if he had deployed a
parachute.
I later drove his car and was surprised how antiquatedthis newer, better Independant rear suspension, supercharged Mustang was.
The clutch feels like a leg press, the strangely shaped shifter feels like someone is pulling against you from the other end and the car feels quite
porky (especially in front). He has cat-back exhuast, K&N filter/intake and
otherwise stock. It sounds cool and feels sort of powerful but doesnt
"motivate" very well. After a quick stop at an undisclosed storage garage
where a buddy has an AAR CUDA, (3) Dodge Daytonas (with the huge NASCAR wings on the back), and a Hemi Charger--this really got the testosterone going, I headed home feeling a little cocky even. I filled up with
****ty 92 octane oxygenated fuel. turned up "Boston on the stereo" and
opened all the windows for a leisurely drive. I minute from my destination,
I see a Chevelle SS 454 turn right by me a lay about 40 feet of rubber
(both rear tires) so I hang a U turn
.I pull up and they are at a local watering hole with the hood up. 1970
Chevelle SS 454 light silver blue with black stripes, factory looking SS wheels
with fat radials, "NBURNM" license plates and (2) guys playing under the hood. I say "You wanna race for Pinks" and the guy says F**K Yeah!!
He says will you go from a dig and I say no my drivetrain does not "dig that".
How about a roll then? I look at the square front end of a factory 1970 car,
see two guys that weigh 500 lbs together (I have weighed 185 for 20 years),
and say how about from 60 mph
. He says how about from 2nd gearand I say lets go. sidenote: he would not tell me what the engine was but
It is a big block chevy, it had very tall (non stock) valve covers Huge
equally sized barrel, four barrel carb, electronic ignition and the drive belt
was running only the alternator.
first run: he pulls along side me and we take off, he gets initial jump and
when I hit third I pull slightly ahead, fourth, I pull ahead more, 5th even more. Now he wants to run from low mph, He pulls a Youie and lays about
50 feet of rubber (Turbo 400 with stall converter). This time I foolishly start
in first gear from a roll
. He immediately pulls me as a try not to bounceoff the first gear rev limiter too hard, but my second gear proves to be the
equalizer and third puts me well ahead and fourth even further and fifth
allows me to let off then pull over into his lane ahead of him--perfect
.Him and his sidekick are astounded and I am sure they do not know a 993
from 996TT, etc. Good clean fun in Mexico, I am 2 W, 0 losses.
I am hooked and have been discussing the next stage already.
Cheers!
MK
awesome... now get some k24 hybrids in there.

Luis has been to this part of "mexico"
Luis,
Yes you are, and a neighbor or your father's was with me in "Mexico".
One last thanks today to Neil at Orton Performance who helped me thru
my first round of mods and the car runs fantastic!! The K-16's blow hard
instantaneously and pull really well through 5500 Rpm. I will soon have
definitive Performance data as I am one of the guys that sprung for
the AX-22 device thru CRAIG. If I have it in two weeks we will play with it
up at the track (Brainerd) in my car and my buddy's Carrera GT.
I also forgot to mention I do not condone racing of any type and
this exhibition driving was done on closed roads in mexico with bicycle
helmets on.

Nice kill Marty. Let me tell you something. I bought some stock manifolds on ebay so I could port them without ruining my own JIC. If you have not looked at the flow of a stock manifold it will surprise you. Very uneven and "ledgey" at the collector. It has tremendous room for improvement. THanks kevin for the do it yourself header mod. If you guys have not done this you SHOULD. I have not put on the new ones yet but the are WAY more smooth and should spool like hell now. It also was not too hard to do. I bought a $20 air grinder and a $20 tungsten carbide bit both from Acwe hardware. It took me about 4 hours to do them both but I am **** as hell. I could probably now do it in 2. Start on the collector side first as the head side is not too bad. There is room to clean up the head side but the collector side is where the problem is. Try it you'll like it. You could do your own for 40 in parts and whatever the new gaskets cost. I am anxious to see how much it helped. Probably does not add much peak hp but the spool HAS to be better. Peak could easily go up a fuzz also.
