I had mine go last week complete with the light show on my dash including PSM failure, ABS failure and a Check Engine light. Call 1-800-PORSCHE and they flat bed the busted essobee into the dealer for a MAF replacement. So they drop in the new part and it fails immediately after starting the engine. A second MAF unit actually worked and I now have my car back. This second failure was not an oiling issue because the engine never got pressurized, it failed immediately. That tells me it is an issue with the part itself.

I understand that modified engines and intake systems electrically overload the part causing the failure(s). I have heard the rumours of oiled filter elements but I will pose the question. Do those of you that run with the new oil free filter c/w the sock experience MAF failure more or less than running with the original oiled element as provided from EVO??

Yip! this could be the case! I have been told from a good source that they can't keep up with the demand for MAF's in the US, they are so busy making these things that mistakes will occur!

My MAF failed....

or at least that's what the OBDII told me within 300 miles of a GIAC flash. I don't have the EVO V flow solution fitted, therefore it's not necessarily the only cause of MAF failures.

Prior to the CEL and since clearing the fault code, but without changing the MAF, my TT continues to run strong - so maybe it was just a glitch ?

None the less I'm fitting a new MAF this evening.

Tim

Hi all. Here's a comment from a different forum, a high-tech competition
group about racing Fords. It implies that K&N has been sued repeatedly
for false claims of benefits:

"Folks,
I once had a car with a K&N and suffered through an over-oiled
filter oiling my MAF. Dismantling and washing extensively with
Berryman's B-12, then careful drying resusitated my MAF.

And a bit of research on K&N showed that their glorious claims have
resulted in them being sued by just about every State Attorney
General in the country for false claims and the AGs won all of these
cases. And in some cases the AGs sued multiple times as K&N
continued claiming advantages that either were not present or
disappeared shortly after a small amount of use - as noted by other
members. If these things had any advantage, the OEs would jump on
them and they would be standard equipment in the CAFE wild world of
Detroit.

The paper filters may not look as sexy as the red K&N, but they
have more than an order of magnitude larger filter area and
provide very visible evidence of dirt.

Happy Filtering,
Cole"

I think over oiling will be the main factor. I'm installing a v-flow next week - fingers crossed.

The problem is that folks are implying causation where all we really have is correlation (popsicle sales and shark attacks). Until a scientific study is done we can all blame and point fingers at whatever we want...it doesn't mean anything. And the implication that this is just a US problem implies that 996TT stevo actually knows about the entire population in the ROW..which I doubt. We all want the "MAF" problem to go away...hopefully we can get to a solution instead of blaming this or that product. Enough of my rant!

Last week I blew my 3rd MAF. 1st-oiled filter. 2nd-dry filter, 3rd-986 MAF & dry filter. I'm eagerly awaiting the new MAF from EVO with the higher voltage tollerence.
