CF interior trim installation

Hey guys,

how hard is it to install:

1. Upper center console, around the radio and AC (the one with the 6 button holes)
2. the 3 little dash strips
3. the shifter
4. the e-brake handle
5. door panel trim
6. center console rear (the big one, with the ashtray)

Thanks!

Re: CF interior trim installation

1. Upper center console, around the radio and AC
10 Minutes

2. The 3 little dash strips
Big Job

3. Shifter
2 Minutes

4. E-brake handle
See # 6

5. door panel trim
~ 45 - 60 Minutes

6. Center console rear (the big one, with the ashtray)

This will be done at the same time as the ebrake. Both together will take you ~ 1 - 1.5 hours including switching out the compenents from one console to the other.

thanks dan - i figured the hardest thing would be the 3 little strips - does the dash have to come out?

Should i just take the car to the dealer for installation of all this stuff?

Absolutely not, they will triple (or more) the times I listed.

I disagree....

The upper console will take WAY more than 10 minutes... even with the service manual sitting right in front of me, it took a good half hour to figure out how to get the damn cigarette lighter out.

I'd place the upper console at 45 minutes to an hour.

I did it in 10 minutes, my first time.

Console pulls off.
The buttons pop off, push them in.
Cigarette lighter receptacle pushes out.

ouch, that method looks quite painful....how would the dealer do it? I'm guessing the only way to take the strip off is to break it....

the car in question currently has wood trim around the console, dash strips, and shifter/ebrake - looks awful with a red interior

I would have thought that the red would nicely compliment the knotty pine

Peter I thought you were entertaining selling the car? Go for the Turbo and you will not regret it. BTW I got your message today on receiving the check. Have a great holiday and keep me posted.

Can you post a shot of the current interior on the car you are looking at? It would be interesting to see...

I just had the upper center console and center console done yesterday. The whole job took about 2 hours. Next week I am having the strips replaced and the A/C vents , Defroster. The hardest of all is the "strips" . Its a really big job, I placed a post titled "Carbon Fiber" about 2 weeks ago and in the thread you will find directions on how to swap out the strips.

I'll take some after x-mas - its pretty ugly as-is with the wood, but with some work, it should be pretty nice. I'm probably the only guy on this board that actually likes red interior

Nope... there are at least two of us who like it... but it is REALLY important that the trim be done tastefully.

What are the chances that you could get the dealership to sell you the CF pieces you like at their cost as part of the deal? How about asking them to install the pieces as part of the deal (and they can keep the wood pieces).

I am assuming of course that you are dealing with a Porsche dealership... you may not be which would invalidate my questions.

I look forward to seeing exactly how ugly the interior is with red and wood.
<grin>

the car is at my Mercedes dealership - trade-in on an CL55 AMG. I have bought 3 cars there in 2 years, so they are going to cut a pretty good deal on the car. Plus, with that color combo, i highly doubt anyone would want it (unless they know to switch out the pieces )

It's been sitting 64 days already at 99K - no wonder!
