How much slack with a short shift fitted?

I fitted a B&M short shift to my TT a few weeks ago but today it felt like the gearlever had more side to side movement once the lever was in a gear.

How much side to side play have others got once the car is in gear with a B&M fitted. At the moment I can move the lever upto 1" in total side to side once in gear.

The side to side play is governed by the keft hand selector cable that connects to the bottom of the lever but this is correctly attched to the lever? Any ideas? Where and how does this cable attach to the gearbox?

David.

This does not sound normal. I just had GMG (forum sponsor) install an OEM Porsche short shift kit and there is nowhere near that amount of play. The short shift kit has been one of the best modifications to date, as it totally transforms the driving experience.

I have the Porsche OEM unit and there is slack side to side. I looked into tightening the nuts, etc, but everything is snug. It bugs me too quite a bit.

I've just drove my TT, my B&M move less than 1/4" from side to side. You better check it up.

Make sure the unit is perfectly adjusted to put the gears all the way in. I'm a little concerned with all the SS equiped cars (factory is the same as B&M) cars that seem to have syncro issues. Maybe there is no relation whatsoever, but I'm worried enough that I won't be installing one.

I have two theories and would love some knowlegeable discussion on this topic:

1. The units need very good adjustment
2. the short shift moves between gears much faster wearing out the syncros quicker. Same thing as slamming gears with every shift?

Again these are only theories and the last thing I want is to offend or insult anyone. I drove a SS fitted car, and it felt awesome....
