Can a harness be used with non GT3 seats?

I would like to purchase harness restraints for upcoming DE events. Is there any way to use the regular TT seats with a harness. Due to the equal restraint regulation for DEs I do not want to buy 2 GT3 seats for 6 or 7 events, but I was sliding all over the place with the 3pt seatbelt. Has anyone used the Tequipment roll bar or the Brey-Krause harness bar with regular seats. Also how much would cloth GT3 seats cost? Also what type of restraints are recommended? Thanks, Kevin

ef966TT, thanks for the info. What type of extra mounting hardware is needed for the belts? Doesn't the crotch belt need an extra mounting bar? How difficult is it to install the Tequipment bar? can it be installed with the seats slid forward and folded forward. Where did you get your bar and harness? Thanks, Kevin

you ll need a submarine bar for a five point harness, and for the roll bar you need to remove the seats, it is tricky...
for the bar look on line, ebay, and some of the advertisers on the this site, they are helpfull, where are you located? if you havemore question just PM me

ef996TT, I am in the Detroit area. You have no problems with PCA tech inspections with a harness but no race seats. Kevin

Be carefull when installing bar its a very tight fit in a sunroof car.I strongly advise you drop the rear portion of the headliner because it is very tight fit and the headliner is very thin and sunroof tracks underneath are very sharp!

Caution

If the seats do not have a "pass thru slot" , a sternum strap in a good idea. The slots or a sternum strap prevent the harness from sliding off one's shoulder under stress. I just did a passenger side seat using stock seat and Team Tec harness. I do have a rear mounted rollbar for the shoulder strap.

cheers

R

R Thanks, the sternum strap is on the list. I am going to go with a Tequipment Bar or a Brey-Krause r1035 Aluminum Harness Truss. Thanks for the info, Kevin

if you REALLY want to be safe, in order to use harness, you MUST have a roll bar, not a harness truss. if you have used a harness before, you will realize that your entire upper body is tied to the seat, you can't even move you neck more than an inch or two (if you can, you didn't strap in correctly). wiht that in mind, imagine your car rolleld, the roof caved in right where your head is, it will crush your neck/head (b/c you will not be able to duck or slide away when you are harnessed in).

i would not use harness unless the seat is spec for harness use. oem seats needs sternum strap else, the harness are essentially not there in a severe impact.

sure, you can have an accident and not get hurt with oem seats and no sternum strap, but i would not gamble on life on that.
