Greddy Boost Controller
Fanman, I agree with you concerning the spending side of things, if a unit is not delivering, I would certainly not buy it for $2 even, not when I invested so much in my engine. In my case and Markski's it seems, it works perfectly, so does it work very well on a friend's Supra. I never had boost spikes unless I had the wrong setting, and once fixed, they were gone.
If it does not work with one's specific setup, definitely not worth the risk. I like its simplicity, and my engine builder has used them for years (including the previous models) without issues, that is why I bought it. I agree however that other units seems much nicer, I guess maybe are better too, I don't know honestly.
Could programming have anything to do with it?

Not really, it more to do with the hardware. It is simply off/on on the Greddy, whereas that other unit's have more sophisticated sensing/monitoring & regulating equipment built in. I used to think it was fine to, until I switched over, and I also had a previous Apexi unit as well. So I have had the benefit of seeing all three units on the same platform. Again, it's just my opinion from my experiences. The Greddy is a decent, basic unit. Nothing more, nothing less.
This argument happens in the Japanese car forums all the time as well, especially with Greddy. They are able to undercut companies like HKS, or Apexi by big percentages and you will always have proponents of both sides. One side saying why waste the money on higher end kits, when you can get a Greddy for hundreds/thousands less. Others counter that the othermanufacturers make more hp, are more reliable, better products, etc.
I suppose you will have people saying get the Europipe, or the Militek, but some people will say why spend thousands more when you can get a Fabspeed for thousands less. These argumants happen everywhere.
Just kind of scary when the difference between 1.3 Bar & 1.4/1.5 Bar might be a new $35000 motor in these cars.
