Camera Question/Feedback

Howdy,

I'm about to buy a portable camcorder for general use and in car track use. I have been looking at a few models and was interested in any feedback regarding these models from owners. Thanks in advance!!

Sony DCR-PC105
Sony DCR-PC120BT - I really don't care about the blue tooth...

Canon Elura 40MC

I have read the cnet reviews of the products but am looking for any comments suggestions on use in a track car.

I also noticed today that Sony had a new model (DCR-PC330), any feedback on that would be great as well!

Thanks
Roy

ColorChange is infamous around these parts
I have a JVC progressive scan that is better for normal to high light situations, but the low light on the Sony 120 is really good. Size is nice but I never use the BT. I think it is way better than the Canon (I tried it and returned it). I like mine and would buy it again.

You should lead your post with O/T for off topic post.

Go for a camera with optical image stabilization vs digital stablization. Much better image quality. You will need stablization to reduce the camera shake when it's in the car and you are driving in a spirited manner...I have a canon. Great optics and image sensor. My camera is the GL1 which has been replaced with the GL2. It may be more than you want to spend...ie $2,200 or so. The video quality does meet the minimum broadcast quality standard. It can be viewed as a true prosumer camera...

Rockitman:

While I agree with you in theory, I tried both cameras and the Canon (unless mine was defective) had incredibly bad low light performance. I could also see no image improvement over digital stabilization. My testing was done on a 110" projection system and really exposed strengths and weaknesses.

GL2 is nice but BIG. If I was going to go big, JVC HD is the only answer.

As far as exposure is concerned, that can be manually adjusted to compensate for the darkness inside the car. I agree that it is rather big in comparison to the smaller cams out there. Probably a bit overkill for in car video. Outside of the car, the image quality rocks, imo. I did an exhaustive search and compare for a couple months before I finally pulled the trigger on the Canon.

Very cool. Still need a video camera to record the feed from the camera to tape. Much better mounting options with that set up...
