RockitMann -> Yah. Your right. If only the V1 scored higher on any of the tests, I would then be tempted to hang that breadbox on my windshield. But until then, I'll stick with my SR1/LE-35, SWEET built in combo.

That's great, I am happy you are pleased with your detection choice, however, if you believe everything you read and don't believe some of the major tests out there are biased, you are only kidding yourself...

I initially used the 8500 in "Expert" mode (mode that shows specific frequencies), but its not second nature to react to 984.xxx vs 981.xxx, etc compared to simple red arrows. The faster I drive, the more my concentration is focused on driving and the environment outside of the vehicle.

That makes sense. Don't use expert mode then.

Bond. I can see that, makes sense. Was it a major painin the neck or could you have stuck with it an gotten used to it with practice?

It would be cool if the user could filter out exact frequencies.

Let's explore the instant on hit.

If it is being used with no traffic in front, then either detector is dead on arrival.

If it is used over a ridge. Passport won't pick it up as soon and won't know where it is comming from.

If you are on the highway with other cars. Passport doesn't know if the threat is instant on in front or a CHP cruiser in the rear.

It could be both and the Passport couldn't tell you this.

If it is coming from a cross street the V1 will allow you to ignore. The Passport won't tell you a thing other than there is radar being used.

Yes, the Passport is a nicer looking unit.

CJV - I don';t htink you underastand yet. Lets day police band is 984.372. Door openers are 981.321. I can see the frequnecy and know to ingonre the alarm, jsut like you can assume to if it is from the side. Same thing .. no? Unless of course there is a cop on the side, then onlly I would know.
I didn't think there was any exact consistency in the frequency of radar guns OR door openers. Are all the new DSP radar able to keep the exact frequency over time? I thought the frequencies drifted making the exact frequency identification not very useful. If a detector can discriminate by frequency between K band door openers and K band radar guns then they could write software to ignore the door opener frequency totally.

I would have to say the winner of the battle will be:

1) V1 - if they build a nice built in unit, or
2) Passport - if they put the arrows on the display.

Until then, pick what's more important to you. Looks, with the passport or avoiding the hassle of hitting the brakes a little more than you might have to with the V1. It's not like the V1 will save you any tickets, just the hassel of hitting the brakes more often. (I need convincing this 'arrow' technology actually works before I'm a believer - any study available?)

I guess the winner is yet to be determined.

So rule #1 is - if you think you've been "POPed", then ask to see the radar gun display with your speed locked since only the normal (detectable) mode can lock.

OK CJV, I’ll grant you that one. Now, how about an x band ahead. I know it’s a door by the frequency, you brake because you don’t. Roughly equal I think.

The bottom line is the units are quite comparable in performance. The two best sources I know with data slightly prefer the 8500/SRX. Most of you guys prefer the V1. I’ll concede that the V1 might be slightly better, but the potential only slightly better does not outweigh what I consider to be a major issue, remote installation (hidden detectors) from a theft (hide and place every time I get in and out of the car), appearance (nothing hanging off the windshield area), cop sees my detector standpoint.

ColorChange,

I'm speaking for myself. If I have reason to use the detector, then I use my remote head phones. I can tell by the sound what I'm being hit with and approx. how far away it is. I have no problem with X band hits straight ahead. Number two, usually where you get these type of hits it's not very smart to be speeding.... schools, business, generally places where there is traffic, cross traffic, people and structures obstructing clear view.

If I was to get a straight on X band hit on a remote highway, I would take it seriously.
