Really? Does any objective data demonstrate this? The best data I saw showed that it performed equally to the worst 996TT test I saw. The only upside I see to the M6 is the alleged 205mph top speed, that is, if the car can really reach it at 4K+ pounds and only 385lbs/ft of torque. If the M6 runs 12.4 in the quarter mile at a trap speed of 117-118 mph and only holds 0.88g laterally, please enlighten me on how this easily beats even a base 996TT. Oh, and btw, the contemporaneous Porsche model, the 997TT handily destroys these numbers. Not hating BMW, waiting for a six-speed M5, but I'd like to know where you got your data b/c it's contrary to what I've heard from seat of the pants drivers and read in magazines.

It's actually trapped 120+ in other tests. It's quite quick.

Yea the 12.4 i saw trapped at 120 or 121 , i forgot! The only advantage it has is its 7 gears/gearing on the highway, which is why it can beat a turbo from a roll! But if they went from a dead stop, it would be hard for the M6 to make up distance and surpass it!

From a roll its a given, but i dont mean anywhere near 10 cl's, a few is more accurate, maybe as much as 3 but then i doubt it, it wont be neck at neck either unless from a dead stop like i said, where the 996tt non x50 is clearly length's in front of the M6, and its hard to make that distance up from 12.0-1 to a 12.4-+ !
Magazine racing is gay. M6 will be faster to 100 i say if it gets decent traction, after that it would be a disaster. I dont think the 996tt launches so well, so i doubt it would be "clearly" lenghts ahead.

Found the race video. Stock M6 vs. Stock 996tt. I believe they go off a 60 or 80 mph roll. The M6 lets the 996 get the powerband and jump. Here.

Now the 997tt will be a good race.

M6 is quicker to 100 by a .10th or 2, but by the 1/4 mile the 996tt is still .4 sec's ahead, weird! BTW the video you posted is a second long!

A M6 would take a STOCK 996TT easily.....

And on the track, the M6 is all around a better track car; but if only the Turbo weren't AWD, that's a whole different story.......and that, my friends, is where the GT2 comes in handy

A stock 996TT means it's the Turbo S because that's the only one way you can have it when the M6 came out. I don't think there is one category as far as performance that the BMW would win. Maybe some of you are forgetting just how fast the TT is.

Turbo S runs 11.7-12.0, traps at 119-122. Problem with Turbo S is that it doesn't spool too good below 4K IMO. If I modded my car, I'd either have to raise redline or go with turbos that spool earlier. If anyone gets me from a roll and I'm below 4K rpm, it's very hard for me to be competitive.

It'll be interesting to see what mods come out for the M6.

First of all, I was referring to a Turbo not the Turbo S; you got yourself a waaay different situation there. And trust me I do not underestimate the power of both the Turbo and Turbo S, it's just that when it comes to comparisons, whatever your comparing has to have it's pros and cons.

One category that BMW would win as far as performance however, is technology with its iDrive. Sorry, just had to throw some humor or at least attempt to in this thread
