take it to dealer, if your car still under warranty. They will replace new cluster for you. I've same problem form my 996C2 cab before. The cluster is about $2K.

Weird, it could be a blown fuse that shuts the gas tank to its reserve with a flap inside the tank. My guage didnt work and after the reserve was used up i could only put 5 gallons in until it ran out of gas Found out it was a blown fuse, that simple but such a PITA!

Common problem and warrantyable. I had the same problem in my old 996 tt and I have it in my new car as well. It is annoying but not as annoying as bringing it to the dealer for service.

You know, my gas gauge has been acting up like this too recently. Last week, as the low gas light came on I filled up the car (I know I did as it slightly overflowed a little) and the gauge only moved to 3/4 of a tank. It went down as I drove the car and when it got to a 1/4 of a tank I filled it up again and the gas gauge moved to Full so I thought everything was ok. Now, after driving over 100 miles, the gas gauge has not moved off the Full reading and the computer is tellin me that I have a little under 300 miles to go. Any ideas what the problem is? Fuse maybe?

alot of times if the gas gauge is wacky, you can disconnect the battery for about 15 minutes and reconnect, this help reset the computer, it has saved me money from going to the dealer, unless it's a hardware issue.
