F'ed up tire situation for turbos
there is no tire like the michelin pilot cup. As far as wet handling, they are barely street legal but when new still have great wet grip. i used to have p zero as OEM, the pilot cup is much better, and quieter.
Thanks James. I had tentatively decided on Yoks. But, now am considering going with the Cups. I used to run A008Rs on another street car back in the day, and loved them. There's nothing like the feeling of a good DOT race tire on a sports car.... and if the Cups are just reasonably quiet (not like Mercedes quiet, just reasonable) then I think they'd be the ultimate choice.
The Cups are great -- better than the 008R's that I used to run on my 930, IMHO. I've run these on the street but determined that they are best used for track days. As a caveat, the one possible downside to these tires for street use (other than the absence of wet grip) to be aware of is that any pebble or bit of debris will stick to these tires initially and then be thrown off into the fender well or against your body work. Rolling over what looks like a clean driving surface can, at times, make you think you've just driven through a gravel pit.
I also agree that the Michelin PS2's would be the ideal street tire, but none are available currently in the stock Turbo 225 size. If you can run GT3 sizes, these tires are available for purchase. Contact Wheel Enhancement at 310-836-8908 -- they usually have a set or two in stock. Other alternatives in stock Turbo sizes which, IMO, are better than either the Pirelli or Conti tire would be the N-spec Bridgestone S02A or the N-spec Michelin Pilot Sport (rib tread pattern).
Happy tire hunting.
