F'ed up tire situation for turbos

I finally received my HREs last night! (thanks Peter at Wheel Experts!). Now the bad news. Rather than slap on the 7K mile Pirellis (that vibrate and howl above 55 mph), I would like to replace the P-zeros. But as far as I can tell, no one has my first two choices available: Michelin S02s (rears on back order) or Continental OEMs (rears also on back order). Does anyone know either:

1. where I can find the Michelins or the Contis?
2. of a suitable alternative that has good performance and doesn't howl or vibrate like the Pirellis?

Thanks in advance!

Yep. S02s. Apparently on back order, only can be filled on an "emergency" basis.

What about Pilot Sports? I have them as winter tires and they are quite good.

Hey John,

Are they different than the S02s? I thought the S02s were Pilot Sport S02s...

Also, how come you only run them in the winter? Do you run the DOT race compound in the summer?

Acck! Sorry for the confusion. The ones on back order are the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2. My bad. I'm trying to find tires and get ready for a meeting that happens in a few minutes, and getting my brands/models mixed up.

The PS2s are the ones I was looking for (Pilot Sport 2), which are on backorder (except for "emergency" situations).

S02s are bridgestone potenza tires. You are thinking of the Pilot Sport PS2 tires. The bridgestones are OEM on my S2000 and are AWESOME tires in the dry. Almost as grippy as most DOT-R tires. I like the bridestones much more than the pilot sports. However, if you don't drive in rain do yourself a favor and go with Pilot Sport Cups. They wear pretty well and have amazing traction.

Grip is half the equation for me. With AWD, the Pirelli's have been fine in that regard.

The other half of the equation is the noise, vibration issue. How are the Cups in that regard? I've run the old Yokohama A008Rs on the street before and they were fine. But, some DOT race rubber can be really, really loud and/or add tons of annoying vibration (fine for the race track, but annoying to me in a daily commute).

hmm, that type of stuff doesn't bother me so i am not a good one to ask. If you are worried about the cups go with the bridgestones. You will not be disappointed.

I just looked up the bridgestones, and I don't see fronts and
rears that suit the 996tt (18"). What sizes are you considering?
Here is the brigestone size link:

Search by product and find potenza a02

not a02...s02. i already posted the link from tire rack to buy them. i think they were actually OEM at one point.

EDIT: tire rack link no longer works. Just put in 2002 Porsche Turbo and they are the first tires that come up.

ok, thanks. I *did* mean the s02, the 'a' was a typo.
So the sizes are 225-40 and 295-30.

Grip is all I care about, but I don't want a tire that
is dangerous in the wet, or has to heat up to stick
at all in the dry. These sound OK..
thanks
