Bill Clinton's definition of OEM?

I was checking eBay for pricing on Porsche turbo wheels. Stumbled on a guy selling what he claimed to be new, in the box, OEM wheels for $799 a set. Naturally, I had to inquire. Basically his response was that these are "OEM aftermarket wheels."

Just exactly what the hell is that? It's like those junk emails I get offering to sell "Italian crafted Rolexes"!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=2452317655

Here is an exact duplicate of the emails that transpired. Caveat emptor!

----- Original Message -----
Are these actual Porsche factory wheels? Or are they an aftermarket
wheel?

If Porsche wheels, are they hollow spoke or solid spoke?

Thanks in advance,

-----Response---------------

oem aftermarket.

Aftermarket knockoffs of the OEM wheels? Some of the RH designs come to mind.

I love the Italian made Rolexes. They're much better than the ones made in Germany.

Racer63, Porsche makes both solid spoke and hollow spoke in the Turbo wheels, early Turbos had solid and then went to hollow and the C4S has the solid, you can tell by feeling the inside of the spokes, hollow is smooth and solid has ridges, hollow also has metal valve stems while the solid has the rubber.

Yeah. That's why I specifically asked him the question, to try to see whether he knew the difference. It turned out to be a moot point as the wheels are not really OEM afterall - at least not in the sense that I think of OEM.

Again, why I was very suspicious. When I saw the price, I thought they must be used and beaten or something. Close to fraudulent misrepresentation was the second theory... which turned out to be correct.

Was my first post confusing? I didn't want to give the impression that I'd actually considered buying wheels from this guy... It was really supposed to be a warning, cast in a humorous way. Maybe I failed on the humor part and just obscured the whole post?

Not looking for any wheels. I did buy some Bridgestone's SO2As from Discount Tire this week. They screwed up the order and the rears won't be in until Wed. But, as long as they show up next week as expected, for now, it looks like I'm set.

FWIW, I get daily emails from eBay and look at anything that says "996 turbo" in the header or body. Just curious what's out there for sale. The wheels caught my eye as one of those things that was too good to be true. And, as expected, it was not true (i.e., the guy was being misleading).

They match the Tire Rack price, and have stores here locally within 10 min of my house. And although they should have checked before they mistakenly installed the 285s on my back rims... instead of the 295s I ordered and paid for... they've generally been pretty good to deal with.
