Aftermarket headunit and NAV ?

Hey fellow members, I was wondering if anyone knows a good stereo shop out here in the SOCAL area preferably around L.A. area. I'm looking to hopefully get a double din headunit with NAV installed and looking for someone who has experience working with the 996TT dash area. Thanx for any help.

The best for all your audio and nav needs is Dennis Barish Designs. Very knowledgable. You can reach Dennis directly at (818)399-7216. He is located in Culver City now. I'm sure there are a lot of people here who know him.

Thanx Ardy for the contact info. I will try and give them a call Mon and see how it goes. Hey Ari, yeah I'm not really big into the flip out screen also. Hopefully I'll be able to get something like the Kenwood 8015, ECLIPSE AVN6600, or the PIONEER Z1 or D2. Those are the ones I'm familiar with unless someone knows any other better brand I'm all ears. Thanx for the reply so far and I'm still open to any other recommended shops.

Bit of advice! If your getting a double din make sure it has a tilt screen, I have the Kenwood 8027 and when it's fixed flush you have to try and bend your head down to watch a movie (as your driving, lol) when you have it on tilt it's superb. post a pic shortly!

Hey 996TT, very nice.......just what I was looking for. I also have a question....did they have a special cover or something to cover up the extra space around the unit?

It comes with a Black plastic surround which to be honest is not that great! It's ok and I have used it but you have to fill the gap above (roughly 3/4 inch) with a Black strip. I used a small block dressed in alacantre, which gives it a nice finishing touch. I will post a close up or pm you tomorrow!

Try Sounds Good Stereo in the San Fernando Valley

Here's the link to their Website: http://www.sounds-good-stereo.com/
Isaac is the man. They do a lot of high-end work. Be sure to check out their past installs.

I have an Alpine CVA flip screen and I am happy with it. You can adjust the tilt which is helpful. Check out my pics below for some shots. I really like the sub setup, rear seats are still functional.

I have been reviewing the nav units for some time now and came to the conclusion (for my needs) the Pioneer Z1 takes first place. It encompasses one of the best Navigation systems around (does not require a dvd/cd), a 30 gig hard drive (to store all those cd’s/ipod music), built in blue tooth and one of the best sound systems around… One problem though, if you choose to install it you will lose the on-board computer info. If you're ok with that, then I HIGHLY recommend it! There is a way to keep the on board computer info by using Alpine’s nav system then switch between your cars computer. If the unit has spacing and it needs a frame they will build it to match the factory finish that looks fantastic.

The shop has done work for me in the pass are high-end experts with (Ferrari, Lambo, Porsche Rolls Royce etc). They installed the Valentine 1 with the concealed display impressively. I have attached some photos for your viewing. They are The Audio Pros located in Hollywood. The person you want to speak to is Vache at (818) 508-8000. He is very meticulous individual – which I like…

Thanks,

Sami

Hey Samiz, what do you mean I'll lose the onboard computer? I just took delivery of my car about 2 days ago so I don't know everything about it yet. How is the onboard computer connected with the factory radio?

The on board computer is incorporated within the factory radio (trip info, destinations etc). BTW, do you have the factory nav system? If not, then I am referring to the factory nav system…

Nope, no factory NAV. I just have the regular radio CDR220, something like that. So this means I shouldn't worry about the onboard computer then.
