You've never seen the built in radar detectors that you can get from your dealer? I really liked the ones in BMW and MB. Just curious about the Porsche ones.

Are you thinking about the V1 system that is built into the rear view mirror.

Not sure what system is used but on previous bmw and mb I've driven it was a an installed option and had two lights on the dash, one for front and rear detecting. It had sensors in the front and rear bumpers. My Porsche dealer whom I'm very friendly with offered me this and I might want to give him some business.

They arent factory, factory options means that the option is installed at the factory in Germany before the car is shipped to the U.S., something like what you are talking about is installed from the dealer by an ouside vendor.

Re: Re: Porsche factory radar

I should've clarified that Porsche doesn't make this unit, so it isn't factory. Just a dealer option.

Evan (AMG ETR) swears by the K40 laser jammer, and he says it works well, but he says his K40 radar detector sux, so I guess get the K40 jammer and then a V1 radar detector (like I do )

I'll probably just use my escort solo cordless radar, it works pretty good.

Factory "Radar"

Hello

AFIK only Mercedes S, SL &E Class have factory Distance Radar option.
This unit isn´t used to decet radar it uses radar to ad active distance control.

What you guys are talking about are two different things:

Most modern cars use Ultrasonic distance controll to help you geting into parking space or trough narrow spots

Porsche uses nearly the same system like BMW.
Some people like it some dislike it i never feelt i needed it becourse I´m a old guy and learned to drive in a VW bug and after that you get used to parking cars without direct sight to the bumpers
My Landlord has a Boxster and a BMW 540 both came with distance park control and he never needed it in the Boxster but loves to use it in his wide and fat BMW.
However he mostly uses that BMW for shoping and intown buiz and the boxster for the spin outs

The other talk is about radar detectors to prevent geting speed trapped.
Now using them is illegal in most staates & countrys.
And some countrys use differend system/bands.
In Germany the system wouldn´t pass the ABE as those systems need approvals and then you only can sale them to People with RF licence. And not very much people would anyhow order that thing in germany as radar speedtraps are geting rare ( Mostly you get traped by laser messure or follow up cars ).

Grüsse

Hello

Oh also know some very special cars from the factory ( somtimes had to work on them )

Now radar on both ends from a Porsche must have a usefull purpose Can you tell me for what those systems are used ?

Nearly nothing is impossible for Porsche as long you can afford it, its technical possible, it will not bring Porsche into legal problems and you are willing to ship the car into the factory for technical support on that item
( Well I said "afford", say you can ship your 959 from Japan to Stuttgart for a simple Maintaince or let the mechanics fly over on your costs )

The problem are the dealers who don´t have the "capacitys" to support those "gimicks" ( thats why the Porsche US option list is so damn short )

Finally a carsystem is limitet by the wrenches/techs the dealer can afford. Those are mostly payed on flatrate. See the poinjt ?

Grüssle
